remote start

I have the ford factory remote start dealer installed ( big pos). My question is my running lights no longer turn on is this a program issue or is the control box bad. I have traced the wire out that runs to head light switch( the white and black wire) and everything is still connected. I also was wondering if all they do is control the ground because if I put a testlight to the wire the running lights come on.

You've got the factory remote start? Neat. I've never heard of anyone w/ this in the Ranger. You think it's a POS? Why?

And I assume you have the auto trans, right?

It is a dealer installed option. Yes I think it is a POS because I have had trouble with it a couple of times and my mom and sister also have it on their explorer and have had problems also. and yes I have an auto.

I've always wanted remote start, its so damn cool. But, having a 5 speed complicates things, I'm not electrically advanced enough to rig something up myself, and installers won't do it on manual transmission vehicles here (its illegal in CA)

Illegal? That's messed up. Why on earth would it be illegal? Worst case you fawk up your car. What's the law care about that..

My buddy got an aftermarket alarm system w/ remote start installed on his WRX w/ a manual trans. It's a Clifford or something like that. He's got the two way remote and all that stuff. It's pretty sweet.. but then I hate to imagine how much it set him back.. There is some sort of disable on the trans. If it's not in neutral it doesn't start the car. I'm not sure if the switch for that was part of the system, or something Subaru does. It's nifty though..
