Power steering pump

well it finally happened. my power steering pump is whining like a son of a *****. but like i read it happened right after i had to move my truck without starting it because my batter was dead. oh well... but i do need some help. i bought the new pump and the pulley tool for the psp pulley. i kept turning and turing and the damn pulley won't come loose..! is there anything i'm possibly doing wrong? any help and or pics would be awesome. i tried to search for a how to but came up dry. thanks

not really. but i can explain it. or try to. k, i put the half circles around the front of the pulley with the bolt in of course and then put that cap on. and all i did was tighten up on the bold while holding the nut. if that makes sense.

that should be the way to do it, it should pull the pulley right off as you turn

thats what i would think too. i already put the belt back on and all that mess. so i'll give it another shot tomorrow. that or take it to the freakin dealership and ask them what i'm doing wrong. who knows. i just don't want to pay them 500 bucks to put a pump on for me.

Sometimes removing the pulley requires that you shock the pulley loose from the pump shaft. While turning the bolt.... tap on the bolt head with a ball peen hammer. This should shock the pulley loose.

I must be missing something.. When I put my MM hydro winch on I had to remove the pulley.. it was 3 bolts. triangular around a slip fit shaft. I just used a ratchet.

Of course I have a 2002 4.0...

and just fyi.. it was a major pain to install that winch.. The kit is based
on the old ohv 4.0 which has the fluid res. on the pump. On the new ones
they are in a totally diff. location and remote res.

*back on topic*
if you still cant get it.. take a pic.

EDIT: i did use a piece of cut rubber hose(no marring) and vice grips(not to tight)
but it wasnt necessary.
