OHC question (not wiring or install)

not sure if this is the right place, did a quick search got lots of how do I wire/install but not much more, so here it goes. Why does everyone use the exploder OHC for temp? was looking at my mothers F-150 (2001 top end 4 door) and she has a factory temp sensor in a tiny unit, also has the map lights but its only about 6 inches long, only down side i can see, stupid button for the power moon roof, but its a much smaller unit, anyone looked at these? wired prob the same as the exploder? what other fords could we raid for parts?

I would understand if the explorer was used for the number of them at the wreckers but thought I would ask if anyone has tried other units. So thats it, thoughts? opinions? will try to grab a pic next time I am in the truck for any that have not seen them.

I don't think it has anything to do with how it looks. We use Explorer ones because their headliner and sub-roof is the same as a Ranger.

You could use a F-150 one I would imagine, I just don't know how well it would sit up against the headliner. Or if the mounting bracket would even work.

I've seen a Blazer OHC in a Ranger, but other than Explorer OHC's I haven't seen something else.

i went for the explorer one because it had been done before (so i had install instructions :) and i could see it would fit the headliner very well, it really looks stock when done. also it had all the features i was looking for, and was pretty cheap on ebay.

it would be nice to see someone try something different though!
