My truck hates water! Stalled out on the trail.

I seem to be getting a short somewhere when my engine gets wet.
The distributor was fairly dry but all the connections on the driver side wheel well were soaked.
It took about 15 minutes of on and off cranking and a can of wire dryer to get it to sputter along.
It took a few miles of driving and airing out before it would stop backfiring an sputtering on acceleration.

I need some ideas to waterproof the truck. It ruined our fun today as I had to limp along through every puddle trying not to accelerate and let it just idle through the trail.

What do you guys suggest? Plastidip all the connections? I don't plan on disconnecting them anytime soon.

I also need to extend my snorkel to the roof, my filter is ruined.

Possibly...But this has happened before when I washed the engine down and it wouldn't start until all the connections were dry.
