My truck is gonna love me!!!
Well last night, I spent $175 I'm still not done) ordered quite a few parts for the truck for so,e tuning up. I shopped around online and got the absolute deals that i will try and pass on.
Parts I bought:
i used the discount code too for RockAuto for 5% off:
45853253761045 expires February 27, 2011
44863612748247 expires unknown
46237933641583 expires march 6th 2011
47370163882022 expires march 20th 2011
i ordered my spark plugs from Advanceauto.com. and applied the discount code p20 and got 20% off them for a grand total of $24 for platinum Motorcrafts.
the spark plugs were a pain to get the right part number. i went to motorcraft.com and it gave me SP412 which I knew to be a Nickel Plug. I was told that it took platinum. I guess easy thing to do is to take the ones in it out to find out. but ill need plugs there when i take them out. I ended up just getting single platinum plugs and am happy with the purchase. next time ill try to get the double platinum.
Parts I bought:
- Motorcraft Fuel Filter FG1036
- Motorcraft Platinum Spark Plugs SP498
- Motorcraft Spark Plug Wires WR6120
- Wagner ThermoQuiet Ceramic front brake pads PD833
- Wagner ThermoQuiet rear brake shoes PAB705R

yeah i know trent, but nothing matched across the board. i spoke with you, Justin Higgs, the dealership, looked on motorcaft.com, called Autozone, Advance, etc....
Dealer and motorcraft.com recommended the SP-412 which is a Nickel Plug. So had i took truck to dealer to get all this done, i would have gotten a nickel plug.
I spoke to Justin who recommended the double platinum plugs which are SP-440 (IIRC). He looked something up and said that the 4.0s came with one back of double plats, and one bank of single plats. but he had a hunch that Ford maybe started using nickel plugs to cut costs on the newer trucks like they cut costs on everything else post 06'.
I spoke with you and you originally looked it up on motorcraft and concluded the SP 412 Nickel. but then thought it might be SP-440 Double Platinum plug.
from motorcraft site:
I cross referenced it on Autolites site and their replacement for the nickel plug was a platinum plug
so it was all very confusing, nothing matched. it would have been easy had it been in owners manual plain as day. the only real way to confirm it is when i pull out my old plugs (if they have never been replaced in the 26k miles before i bought truck). if they are totally different, then ill go get some different ones.
I concluded i could probably be safe using a MotorCraft SP-412 (nickel), SP-489 (platinum), or SP-440 (double platinum)

I just stopped by the dealer today and they ran my VIN and came up the SP 440 (AGSF 34 FP) the parts store had the plugs listed as the same as the OHV 4.0L. I don't understand why they can't get this right. The OHV plugs are shorter and don't extend far enough into the combustion chamber. I'm now fighting with the parts store about them selling the wrong part but they are pretty ignorant, saying what their computer says is right and it updates nightly. They have been throwing a misfire code since installing them. I'm pretty pissed, but may just eat the $50+ spent on the wrong plugs and go to the Dealership and get the right ones.
