Keep Blowing my Radio/GEM fuse

Well i was on my way home today from getn some rims from a guy and out of nowhere my CD player shuts off, and wouldn't turn back on. So i started trying other accessories thinking it was a fuse. Looks like its my radio, windows, and maybe one of the warning chimes. Its blowing the 7.5fuse everytime i put the key forward or back for power. I have no idea why it happened all of a sudden after many years of it not happening. I looked over the GEM and the wires around it as well as the CD player wires and i couldnt find anything wrong. And it was nice out today so my windows are down a quarter of the way and its suppose to rain in a few days so i need to get them down asap. I'll have to look into it better tomarrow but i thought I'd ask and see if anyone has any extra input.

damn electrical gremlins

Try unhooking the head unit connectors first, and see if the fuse still blows. If it doesn't than you know something is shorted internal to your head unit.
If it still blows, try unhooking the connector on the GEM to see if it still blows.

I tried unhooking the CD deck right away and it still blew, so tomarrow I'll try unhooking the GEM connectors and see if it does. I also have no wipers, so i need them before it rains/snows at the end of the week too.

Ian thanks for the offer but i dont need a stock deck, I've got an Alpine deck right now.

well after driving it around for a while i just decided to try it again, worked fine. drove about a mile to the bank from the gym and when i got into the parking lot the radio shut off and no windows, wipers etc. I'm not sure if it was the bump getn into the lot that did it or what. So I'm thinking its a wire that rubbed through somewhere and is hitn bare metal. Then i get home and it worked again without blowing a fuse. I even got under the dash and started playing with wires to see if i could get it to pop but nothing. So getn to find this damn Gremlin is getn harder. But maybe I'll get lucky and it will keep working for a while, but of course its not fixed then just postponed.

your burning that 20 or 30 A fuse. I have my sex lights hooked up to that fuse! so they come on when the keys in. haha

Possibly the wire's catching a ground at your winshild wiper pump area or moters. ?

well i looked under my dash again and i found a couple suspect wires. They were melted together, as well as one with no shielding at all on part of it. Something had to have happened during my swap cause i remember seeing them like that right after, but not before. IDK wtf happend but it was a serge of some kind. I fixed all the wires and it works fine now(and i felt them after a long drive and they didnt get hot) gota love electronics and wiring woo

its a 7.5A fuse, not a 20 or 30. I believe its the #20 slot

hahah I'm the dumass. I found the short had to be between the CD player plug and where it plugs into the stock plug. which is why it didnt do anything when i unplugged just the CD player. so once i unplugged it from the main plug then it works fine so it got narrowed down alot. well after looking it over i realized I still had an ignition on wire going to the rear of my cab from my old amp/sub setup. I had rolled up the wires and stuffed them in the hole where the body bolt goes. well that nice bare prong end was hitting bare metal every once and a while in there.

so I get the dumass award

glad to hear you found the problem and got it fixed.

...and, you needed another trophy for your mantle anyway, didn't you?
