There is also a torsion limited slip differential, alcoa wheels and seats.

According to the manual and advertisement books, the Level II actually sat like, 0.2" lower, as the added weight of the extra skid-plates, and other stuff. I know I remember reading that, but not sure if I ever got an answer, why.

on my 04...stock

31x10.5x15 BFG All-Terrains
bilstein shocks
Torsen Limited Slip
3 skid plates (front, mid, aft)
chrome front tow hooks (rear hook optional, or non-existent in the 04 I think, especially if you get the class III hitch).
square fog lamps
seats (which everyone thinks are uncomfortable....I LOVE em compared to my 93 seats)
chrome shifter
'03 and previous had manual 4x4 option, 04+ 4x4 electronic on-the-fly
15X7 alcoa wheels
4-doors (does edge have that option? I know the 06 FX4s have option for 2 or 4 dr now)
I don't recall the EDGEs having the 4.0L, matter of fact when I was searching for my truck all the edges I found had the 3.0L
rear sliding window
power everything (locks, windows, mirrors)
4.10 gearing
chrome bumpers (normal XLT bumpers)

That's all that I can think of that's stock, straight from the factory on the FX4 Level II, that might only be as either custom vehicle options on the EDGE or aftermark options (the BFG tires, alcoa wheels, etc).

I think the 4.0L was ext. cab only on the Edges. Never knew for sure.

Yeah you can get a 4x4 edge, as well as an Edge with the 4.0L. I think also there was a small small run of reg cab 4.0L Edges. The Level II is also always a 4 dr. extended cab (until 06 apparently, I guess they offered it on the 2 dr ext. cab too). It gets a special set of skid plates and front towhooks. Also, if you don't get a trailer hitch with the truck, it comes with a rear towhook. Adding a hitch deletes the rear hook however. The interior is black, as opposed to tan or gray, and also the fender flares and lower valence are a darker color than those of an XLT 4x4. The FX4 Level II only comes with a styleside bed. EDGES have the vinyl floor, and Level IIs have carpet (though I think the vinyl became an option in 06 for the level II). Until 2003, a manual transmission Level II had a manual transfer case selector, as opposed to an electronic one in 2004+ manuals. All automatic 4x4s (EDGE, XLT, Level II) had electronic transfer cases. There's probably stuff i forgot, but that's a few of the more minor details.

2006 FX4/Level II are still 4-door Supercab only.
2006 FX4/Off-Road is available as either 2-dr S/C or 4-dr S/C. Prior years were 4-dr S/C only.

Both 2006 FX4 models have a standard textured vinyl floor as opposed to the black carpet used on 2005-back. This means that the XLT is now the only Ranger model with carpet.

Edges have been renamed "Sport" for 2006.

All 2005-up Rangers have the traditional Ranger Styleside except the STX which has the Mazda Styleside bed.

Finally somebody said it, the biggest difference is the rear axels have 31 spline shafts which are bigger and stronger then the non level 2 28 spline shafts. Also the torsen LS diff is a different type of LS and is better then non torsen ones as far as LS go. A nice thing is they come with 15 inch wheels so tires are a little cheaper to replace. It has BFG AT tires also which is the best tire ford puts on the ranger IMO. When we were at centralia in April of this year I thought somebody took a tape measurer and measured the ground clearance of a L2 and non L2 and the L2 was about an inch or 2 higher. it was aurgued about for weeks that there was no way a L2 could have that much more cleanance because the only thing giving it more cleanance is the taller tires, but I was there and saw it it is a little taller.

Basicly if you take and edge or XLT and do a 31 spline axel and torsen LS swap and get yourself a set of aftermarket wheels and tires, maybe change the tow hooks if you want and you would have a L2.
