Dual Battery installed.

I installed dual batteries, one for the engine and one for the camper 12 volt refrig. This is OK for installation to run a winch ,

I was just reviewing your photos of the install and noticed you have two similar but different batteries in your setup.

How's that working out ?

I was alway told to keep the batteries the same if running a dual setup.

Very interested !

one is for engine starting & the other is for camping, which is deep cell. both receive 12 volts. I never had a problem. I have sold my ford ranger.

Yes, depending on your use most dual battery setups are wanted so the starting battery will always have enough of a charge to start the engine, which is where the isolator comes in.
The added battery will be used for winch, snow plow, camper or camping power, none of these need quick high amps like a starter motor, even the winch, they need amps for a long period which is what a deep cycle battery is designed for.

If you were using 2 12v batteries to start a diesel engine then you would want matching battery types.
But for most, the standard "car battery" and then a deep cycle battery added is the most common

I have always heard they should be the same batteries to charge properly.

This really only applies if you don't have them properly isolated. If they are set up direct then the 2 batteries can discharge each other they basically swap charge back and forth.

if you isolate the batteries they can be different and operate just fine.
