Daytime headlights constantly running

Hey guys, I feel bad for this being my first post seing how its only about a problem I'm having but in the future you'll see that my 98 ranger will be going through some major surgery with the help of you guys. Okay so the problem I'm having with my 98 ranger super cab 2WD v6 3.0L is one day the daytime running lights decided to stay on even though the cars turned off whihc is killing my battery; Ive pulled the fuse for the daytime running lights and replaced it with a new one but the sam thing happens. So now I have just kept the fuse out but I would like to fix this problem. Anyone know what it could be?

Thanks alot guys,
Daniel

You canadians... always complicating things. This might be tough since USA Ranger's don't have daytime running lights. We have a few members here who are "at one with the electrons" so I'm sure they'll be able to come up with something.

The 98 DRL module is on the lower radiator support near the driver side headlight. It has 7 wires going to it. You could try unplugging it to see if that makes a difference.

Is there anything you don't know Bob? You're definitely gonna be at the top of my PM list when I start some of my projects!

Welcome Daniel, and good luck with th DRL's (wish we could get those).

Yeah, I agree with you there. Him and John Griggs will be my Mecca of knowledge or something.

they do sell it as optional, but IMO I had them on my GM vehicles, and hated them....

Ford sells a kit but you should check your harness near the headlight first. Some U.S.-spec Rangers have the plug in the harness and you only need to add the Canadian DRL module. For 2001, look up from underneath for an unused 5-wire connector below the DS headlight.

It could probably be adapted to run the parking lights instead. However, in some states, it is illegal to drive with parking lights only, even in the daytime.

Just pull the DRL relay behind the drivers side of the front bumper. It's the only thing behind there, you can't miss it.

I pulled mine a few years back because it was acting up. Never had any problems since. Not having them is not the end end of the world, as most Americans tend to believe other wise. Coming from one Kanuck to another....just pull it and be done with it.

Cheers!!

Just a question relating to this. I'm not having this problem.. actually I had to have this put on my truck for inspections via vehical importing. But If one was to take it off... and you go get an inspection - wouldn't they fail you? Or are the specs different from province to province?
