Also you connected your clutch position sensor right?

Not sure how to do that. I think that's the problem though. It seem as though the computer thinks the truck is in gear.

Computer doesn't care

First, is it a V6 engine?
If yes then it has PATS, passive anti-theft system

So does the Theft light come on with the key?
And then go off
OR does it start to Flash, if it starts to flash then you have a PATS problem

If there is no Theft light then its a burned out bulb or a PATS issue

If PATS is OK or its a 4cyl Ranger:
2001 Ranger still has the Clutch Pedal switch by-pass used in automatics
Above the clutch pedal you will find a long connector with 7 wires, maybe 6

Looks like this: https://www.ranger-forums.com/attach...ntitled-3-.jpg

This shows the wires plugged into the clutch pedal switch
In an automatic they would be plugged into another wiring harness, UNPLUG it
And connect it to the clutch switch
If you do not have a clutch switch then GET ONE, other systems need it not just for starter motor

help!!

Hello everyone i am new to the forums and would really appreciate some feed back!
I have recently purchased a 1987 Ford Ranger 5-speed manual 2.3L. The truck sat for about 4 years with never being driven. I have changed the oil and all the fluids 3 days ago. I replaced the tail pipe and muffler due to an exhaust leak. Anyways, today while i was driving for about an hour (40 miles) i started to hear a loud click under the hood. I had continued to drive being that everything felt fine and just wanted to make it home until the issue could be fixed. After driving another 30 miles I was going around 60mph and all of a sudden the gas pedal wasnt working and slowly i went from 60mph to stuck on the side of the road its like i lost power but the engine turned off as it came to a stop but the radio still on. The battery is totally fine and when i try to start it, it almost starts but wont. Could this be the alternator not giving it enough juice? and what was that clicking sound (it was pretty loud if you drove next to me on the street you could hear it.) From what i have been reading it seems like possibly it could be the fuel pump?? If anyone knows or has any advice it would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you guys.

Ron's right. Listen to him.

Also, you need to read everything in this thread. Sit down, read every single post. https://www.ranger-forums.com/projec...al-swap-82820/
It will help you to understand everything that needs to be done.

Make sure you read up specifically on what Ron is talking about. Also make sure you read specifically in Trepaul's thread about the DTR and connecting 3 wires together. You have to complete the park neutral circuit. Connect TN/RD, PK and RD/WH wires together. This allows the ignition circuit to be closed when you turn the key. It also allows 4LO to be engaged with clutch/brake pedals pushed in. You need to have that clutch position sensor plugged in. Ron's right, 2001's have the harness wired up already. It will be plugged into a dummy plug right near where your clutch pedal is on the knee pan.

If you need anything, give me a holler. I'm fresh off a successful swap on a 2001. I might be able to give you a hand.

It's originally an automatic with a 3 ltr. I converted it to a standard.

If it's plugged into a dummy plug, should I get a clutch position sensor and plug that into it and mount the CPS?

Yes, get a clutch pedal switch, unplug the by-pass to automatic and plug in the clutch switch
