Broken door handle :(

Today i went to get in my truck so i could go wash it and i pulled on my drivers door handle and it didnt come open. It does this all the time when i try to open it. So like always i pulled harder and it didnt work so i pulled harder. Then the handle broke. Getting in the passenger side to open the door got old really quick. So i was wondering how do you change the handles. I searched and found some info about having to drill out some rivits but i didnt have time to take it apart today and look at it. I will try to post some pics later tonight when i get off work or tomorrow morning before i go back to work. If any body can help i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Thanks

You need to adjust the rod in the door and you can fix that. My old truck was that way.

My handle just came loose. But it still opens...for now. Is this the same problem? And how do I adjust the rod in the door?

So i finally called the stealership and they wanted 42+tax for a new one unpainted. so should i spend the money and get that one or just get a cheep one off ebay? Im thinking of just getting a set of black replacements if i get it off ebay.

Damn, that sucks!!! Those rivets don't look like fun either.

I just broke my tailgate handle yesterday too. Same spot as your door handle. Only nice thing about the tailgate latch is that it bolts in. Just ordered a replacement handle.

I currently took the cover off the tailgate so that I can grab the rods and pull them back. Not so easy for the doors I imagine.

Yeah I bent my tailgate handle about a month ago. had to take the cover off and straiten it back out it was pretty easy. This wont be quite so easy.

yeah, and you have to unbolt the latch assembly to get the rod on and off also. which i believe is bolted on by torques.

Just broke one for the third straight winter and it royally ticks me off! I am parked about 6 inches from my house as well, so I have not yet figured out how I'm even going to be able to get into my truck. I punched out the rivets when I did the first replacement and and have been using bolts with nylon locking nuts instead.

i have gone through over 7 of these things. so far the longest lasting one (broke today) was reenforced with jb weld. i filled each valley of the hinge arm in until it was a solid piece. still broke, sheared the through jb weld. i guess its time to find stronger epoxy's, any suggestions?

I ordered one from LMC truck I believe. I was expensive >$20 but it feels the best so far when opening the door. All of the other cheep ones I would have to pull the handle way up and hard which is why they kept breaking when other people would use it. So far I have had no trouble with this one but it hasnt been used much.
