blowing pcm fuse when trying to crank

I recently lost my keys and had a locksmith come out and make me a new transponder key. The truck had sat up for 7 months and when he tried to crank it the battery was dead and hooked up a charger. The truck cranked a few times, but immediately died after taking off the jumper cables. After a few tries, it started blowing the PCM fuse. I went and had the battery tested, it was dead, and bought a new one. Is it possible that some type of critter chewed something I can't see? My friend unhooked the computer to see if he could see any arc marks and didn't see any. However, after hooking it back up my truck will not even turn on to aux mode to listen to the radio. Any and all help would be appreciated!!!!!

Welcome to the forum

Need to know the year of the Ranger?

And the engine size?

2WD or 4x4 might matter?

Manual or automatic will matter?

PCM fuse powers, PCM(computer), but also ALOT of other things, IAC valve, all fuel injectors, MAF sensor heater, EVAP and EGR solenoids, transmission solenoids,,,,,,,,,,loads of "stuff"
YEAR of the Ranger is the big thing, to know what PCM fuse powers, it changed from year to year

Your alternator or its fuses may also be bad, battery is ONLY used to start a vehicle, once it is started ALL power comes from alternator, so when engine stalled after removing jumper cable it means alternator was not working.

What PCM Fuse is blowing??

2007 alternator should have 2 RED wires, both should have 12volts key OFF or on, test for that, if one doesn't then Fusible Links are blown
There will also be a GREEN wire, it should have 12volts when key is ON, this is the ON/OFF switch for alternator.
If GREEN wire does not have 12v when key is ON then check fuses #9 and #10 in cab fuse box
