air conditioner giving me trouble

Like the title says my a/c has been a little lacking lately. On a 85 degree day the a/c ran at 90 on max. I put in freon and it had little effect dropping the temp down to 86.
I just took a look at the blend door today and on my temp control I have a cable controlled unit. It works fine but i can't get my hands to the bolts that i need to take off to lift the entire assembly out so that i can see the piece that is actually in contact with the blend door. Any suggestions on where to go from here/ what else i can do to diagnose the problem.

Thanks in advance guys, this site has been so helpful lately.

Are you sure the compressor is engaging? If so does it cycle on and off quickly or does it stay engaged?

Have someone switch the AC to Max while watching the hot water valve (inline with heater hose). Does the linkage move? If so does the air coming out the vents get cooler after a few minutes?

You may also have a leak in the A/C system. Take it to any local garage and have them hook guages up to it. A lot can be told by just doing that. Shouldn't cost all that much to have that done.
