Shift motor is not turning the shaft in transfer case.

Block the tires
Turn on key
Engine off
Get under truck and tap on the shift motor
If it works you will here it click.

But after taping on it get in truck start engine and put clutch in or shift into neutral and try the 2WD button again.

See if it stops flashing.

On the shift motor there are copper contacts for the Dash Lights, the shift motor has to turn to a certain position for the contacts to pass voltage and then the light for that selection will come up on the dash.
Flashing or no light means motor is not moving.

There are also a couple of fuses that power the motor and control module, their positions and # change almost every year so you will need to find a fuse diagram for your year, owner manuals usually have that

HI-- I just bought a 2002 ranger XLT turbo diesel ( made in Argentina) and the 4 WD switch located on the dash seems to have burned out.

I actually heard it after engaging the 4wd, then disengaging, then shutting down the engine. It buzzed and then it would not disengage 4wd, or actually seemed to keep trying to go back in from 2wd.

I am looking for the part ( servo?). Any suggestions where to locate it?

Here it is, and I went ahead and opened it up, but cannot see where it would have failed.

Is there another switch somewhere in the dash near it that would have made the sound?

Many thanks-

This is the closest I could find: 1999 2004 Ford F150 F250 F350 Excursion 4x4 4WD Switch Bulb XL3Z14B166AA | eBay

Out of a Ford F-series

The 2000 and up Rangers used a 4x4 Module to control the shift motor on the transfer case, it was behind the radio but it would make no noise, the shift motor does when trying to shift, if it is the same on your Ranger.

Yes, the South American Rangers were not allowed to be sold in the US or Canada, because of emission and safety testing.
So outside of the tires and "maybe" the window glass there won't be alot of direct crossover parts to North American Rangers.

Hi Ron-
thanks very much for locating that ! I am trying to learn what Ford models will offer cross over parts, such as what you found, and perhaps the A/C compressor, alternator, or other external components.

What do you think about the window motors and regulators? Mine are shot. Like this perhaps:

02 2002 Ford Ranger Window Regulator - Body Mechanical & Trim - A1 Cardone, ACI, Action Crash, Dorman, Motorcraft, Replacement, Front Left, Front Left - Driver Side, Front Right, Front Right - Passenger Side, Left, Left - Driver Side, Right - PartsGe

And shocks? Any recommendations of types to use, considering we will be way off grid most of the time, and a lot of mountain climbing.

I had a heavy water leak start after its first 200km shake out drive. I cannot pinpoint it, since it was at the very back top of the engine. I am really hoping it wasn't the head, and was wondering if perhaps a freeze plug or hose, since it was sitting a lot, undriven

I am also trying to find a South American parts dealer site that would serve this truck.

Trying to post pics but having an issue now-- will past asap.

Thanks again for any feedback
