2001 3.0 no crank/no start theft light blinking rapidly
New to forum
My 2001 3.0 2wd randomly refused to start so now its stranded in a parking lot.
When key is turned to start the theft light on dash blinks rapidly.
Brand new battery.
Tried striking starter, nothing
Tried disconnecting battery to reset Pats/computer
Checked pcm relay
Is there anything else as far as fuses/relays I should check? Any battery disconnect trick? Anything? Should I get it towed to a dealer?
I'm stumped and I need this truck to run asap
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the forum
Can't reset PATS, after 3 tries using the key it will be in Lock Down for 30-45min, even with battery unhooked
Fuse #19 in the cab fuse panel, 25amp, is the only fuse for PATS, it also powers the spark coil pack and PCM relay
You need to get the PATS Code number to find out whats wrong, which is easy to do
Turn on the key
Theft light will flash rapidly for 60 seconds, THEN it will start to flash a code number
two digits always starting with 1
so 1 flash, pause, 1 flash, longer pause, then repeat for code 1:1
1:2
1:3
1:4
ect......just count the flashes
Google: Ford PATS code "Number"
Or post it here
PATS codes can also be read with "most" OBD2 readers, but they will be "B" codes, they will start with B, like engine/transmission codes start with P, B is for a Body code number
Bxxxx
So 4 digits after the B
Most common is the transceiver has failed, the ring around the key slot, not hard to change
If its your only PATS key and its not working then you will need a Mobile Locksmith(better than Ford dealer) to come out to make a new key and add it to the system, I would suggest getting 3 keys but up to you
Locksmith can't help you if its a bad transceiver, or wiring issue
There is no by-pass for PATS, tow it or fix it where it sits are the only options

That's a transceiver code
I would pick one up at wrecking yard, 2001-2005 part number is 1L5T-15607-AE
Used in Ranger, Mazda B-series and Explorers those years
You will need to pull off steering column covers, and lower dash covers to change it
Its a 4 wire plug in make sure old one's plug is OK, and wires
1 wire is 12v Key ON, from fuse 19, red wire
1 wire is a Ground, black wire
Other 2 wires send the Key's Code number to PATS in the Computer, grey and white wires
You should test 12v and ground
Pictures of install here: https://www.ranger-forums.com/8-cyli...llation-48794/
You are swapping it out, the above was a new install

Ok so I haven't got the new transceiver yet
But I had a chance to test the wiring with a multimeter
I removed the old transceiver completely, turned the key to the on position and tested the female end of the 4 wire harness plug
The red 12v wire read 0
I dont have a black wire so I'm assuming the the green wire I have is the ground..
The green wire read 12.6
So will have to trace the red wire to find a break?
I'm not very savvy with wiring/electrical issues so please excuse my ignorance
Also my new transceiver should arrive in the mail tomorrow..
Just wondering if since my red wire isn't reading then it's a deeper problem?
Thanks

Ok I received the transceiver in mail today and I will install when I get home from work
I have another question though..
Is there anyway I can test the starter with the Pats engaged?
Also I can put the truck into neutral, if the the Pats is the problem I shouldn't be able to shift right?

Good work
Thanks for the update and hopefully THE FIX
You can jump a starter motor with a 12v wire from battery, to the "S" post on starter motor, the smaller wire's post on starter
This tests if starter is working, but PATS would still prevent start up
No, PATS doesn't prevent shifter from moving, it disables fuel pump and fuel injectors, and starter motor on most years, but not all
