1994 ranger 4.0 4x4 manual ecm failure?
I have had an issue for a while where the truck would want to stall immediately after starting and wouldn’t rev but the truck would catch itself after a couple seconds then run fine. sometimes it would not start for a little while but after about 30 minutes it would fire up. It is now to the point where the starting is completely unpredictable whether hot or cold and when it does run it is missing a lot of power and will hardly accelerate and wants to stall really easily when letting out the clutch in first. I checked and cleaned just about every sensor on the truck and from what i read in some other threads it led me to check out the capacitors in the ecm.
the main thing that stood out to me was the discoloration around the capacitors that look like scratches. Could that possibly be the previous owners attempt at replacing the capacitors or a sign of failure? Will the entire ecm need to be replaced? Is there something i’m overlooking relating to my intermittent starting issue?
Ecm part number is foaf-14a459-aa if that helps
Thanks

Yes, the capacitors have been replaced and not a great job, lol, but they tried
I had to do my 1994 4.0l capacitors a few years back, running great ever since
At least one of the caps did effect the fuel pump starting on mine
You can HEAR the fuel pump come on for 2 seconds and then go off with key on, on mine it either wouldn't come on or it would stay on passed the 2 seconds, then go off after startup sometimes
And engine would run fine then suddenly run poorly even stall and not restart for awhile
Pulled the computer and replaced all 3 caps
You may want to try replacing them again because its cheap, under $5
And cleaning up the circuit board underneath each when its out, Q-tips and isopropyl alcohol works great
But from the symptoms it could be fuel pump is failing as well, but I would do computer first since its out
