What is this part?
I`ve been getting a hissing noise that I can hear near my pedals. After searching for where it`s coming from, I found it to be this part in the pic making the noise. When I unplugged it, the hissing stopped. Plugged it back in and right now its fine. Is this normal to make this noise? I wouldn`t think so. The noise pretty much comes and goes. The dealer could not find the problem as usual. I need to know what this is called so I can get a new one. Or maybe a part # would be good. My mustang has one as well and I never hear anything from that one. Thanks for the help.

ok, i looked in my book-it is a factory ford service book specific to my truck-2004 ranger 4.0 V6(same book you will find on your dealers desk), and it is called EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CANISTER PURGE VALVE
the hissing might be the excess vapor being released and is normal-if im correct
if you have a problem with it your check engine light will come on and it can be tested, but if your check engine light is not on then i wouldnt worry about it- If im correct if this part is needed part and if its bad your MPG will drop but im not positive on that, also with it being an emissions part you may only be able to get it from a dealer
