Under $1k with a Hurst. It's honestly not hard to do. My Level 2 swap (manual t-case) cost me $300 with fluids including the case.

The slave issue normally isn't a big issue, I had the problem when I replaced the clutch, for about a week. The other 145k miles were trouble free. But try to fix the trans you have. Most shops just want to do a full rebuild or sell a new one because they don't want to diagnose. You should also definitely install a bigger cooler, these transmissions run warm anyway. Mine always sat around 170-180 in the sport trac with 4.88s and 33s. With a bigger cooler it dropped a solid 20 degrees. My f150 is normally only at 145 for comparison.
35s and stock gearing is not doing you any favors.

I got a transmission for a dodge neon completely rebuilt, down in San Luis Mexico, a few years back for only $550. Brand new. Maybe an option for you?

i dont know if they will or not.

to replace the torque converter isnt that hard. rough synopsis

drain the tranny fluid by dropping the pan (reinstall the pan to protect internals)
unhook the cooler lines
unhook the gear shifter
unhook electric harnesses (transmission and transfer case)
unbolt driveshafts
unbolt transfer case
remove service port in bellhousing
remove each bolt holding torque converter to fly wheel (4 total) you will need to turn the engine over from crank pulley on front engine (18mm)
unbolt transmission
pull trans out. (some claim you need to unbolt exhaust, i did it without doing it)
slide torque converter off
fill new torque converter with mecron V
slide new torque converter on

reverse procedure
once all assembled install new filter and fill transmission

that isnt too detailed but any questions I can try my best to answer. i did this all myself at home with a floor jack and hand tools. Nothing special.

btw I bought the NicksterSVT 5R55E kit that he sells, came with instructions, mix of shift kits, new seals, filter, upgraded valve body, new solenoids, and a new torque converter. It was stout after that and took another 25k miles of pure abuse with 37" and 42" tires even with a supercharger. Now Jason (rngprerunner) has it in his truck and we all know he beats his truck up. :)

just be glad you have a bodylift... i have done this work on a truck with a BL and on a truck without a BL, it is a night and day difference is difficulty!!! it took close to 50 mins to re-intstall the t-case on the non BL truck and literally took me with a BL about 12 mins to put mine back in.... so you will benefit from having it..

this. tried it again tonight. and the tranny slows it down to about 15 mph or so then it just coasts. and for whatever reason, when i click it down to first it takes about 3 seconds to go into first. like its delayed. every time. whats with that?

dumb question... 07 with 42k miles... do you not have a 5 year 60k mile powertrain waranty down there? my 07 (canadian) has a 5 year 100 000km powertrain waranty, which warrants all internally lubricated parts of the motor, transmission, transfercase and differentials

and of course, 60k miles is the same as 100k km

i thought it was a 3 year 36000 mile warranty. but now that i think of it i remember seeing a little card in my owners manual stating something had been extended... but idr what it was. and i highly doubt they'd honor warranty for me. hahaha

my truck had a 3 year 60k bumper to bumper and a 5 year 100 000 powertrain

btw, i would not want to tow with an automatic... manual or no tow at all imo... manuals are much stronger

they have a lower rating for towing then the automatics on our trucks. now if i had diesel with a bulletproof tranny then i would definitely opt for the manual.

I've not seen this really mentioned other than Brian...... another victim of 3.73's and 35's possibly???? Alot of 06+ XLT 4x4's are 3.73. Not too mention the high temps of wheelin' an auto?

Weezl.....you need to read up more on these trucks.... According to the posts here, you really know nothing about our transmissions.... (weak fuking pieces of ****! I'm on #3)

hmmm... i had not heard any issues about the manuals... (although i do know the slave issues)

ty, if it's just your tires that you think would cause you issues with the waranty, toss some 33's or 31's on your truck when you take it in... i'm sure you know someone with a set on 5x4.5 or have your old tires

the warranty is only valid ,, if he still has the factory size tires on it

try to borrow a friends( ranger ) factory tires and rims and take it to ford
that tranny should still be under warranty

let the ford dealer ship deal with the warranty work

i just had my tranny done yesterday,, it solved 80% of the problems i was reporting
( fresh fluid / new filter / they cleaned the valve body? / tightened the bands / made adjustments in the T.C.M software -- a tsb out aboot that 1 )

Manual transmissions in the ranger are weaker. May last longer if you are easy but definitely weaker.
The auto tows well when it is geared right, tuned and stays cool.

You really should stop trying to give advice until you learn more. The Ranger auto's are stronger than the manuals, its just a fact.

yesss. 4.88's soon.

i think i will just change the fluid and filter, swap in a new TC and then focus on regearing and hope that the tranny holds up!
