New shocks all the way around.

Not sure if these were factory original, but they were pretty much non-functional.

Is the contact patch (the shiny spot where the ring's teeth touch the pinion's teeth) centered?
The slightly narrower(?) pinion is likely OK.

That was a good time to do away with the crush sleeve, and put the eliminator kit in.

Not the best photo, but this old girl was treated to a used set of white fender flares and some new tires (not shown) in the past week. Slowly putting her back to her 2014 appearance (with some minor differences).

Been over a year since I installed LED headlights... finally got around to aligning them in preparation for a 3-week road trip.

rebuilding my 1997 4x4 Ranger

removed my bed for the second time after replacing the fuel pump, it ran great for a couple days then began to sputter. To my surprise after removing the fuel pump it was full of rust the strainer came off and it looked as old as the one I took out. I removed the gas tank and just finished cleaning it. I am finding out that it is hard to find parts for this truck. I want to replace the exhaust system and install new headers but again it is hard to find anything online for this truck. I did find one website that has a JBA Shorty header but it is expensive and I was hoping to find something more in my budget. Any Ranger owners on this forum replaced their exhaust manafolds for their 4.0 V6 engine ?

JBA 1634S Shorty Header, SS, 95-97 Ranger 4.0L cost $569.95

what's the point of headers if your not making power. Waste of money really.

After market headers should give a 5% increase in HP performance but more importantly I like the sound you get is more defined. I think overall the truck will ride much better. I need to replace the catalytic converter’s and the muffler anyway since they are rusted out. The exhaust manifolds look pretty shot. I am also going for the looks.

Local junkyard listed a white 2003 Ranger as a new arrival this week, so yesterday I took a trip to see if it was an Edge, and came home with the correct hood and grille for the truck.

This pretty much completes the 2014 look below (I'm keeping the bumper and misc. 06+ add-ons), but if I can find a set of the 01-05 step bars, I'll change those too since I currently have the 06+ version and they're rusting out.

Hello, I’m Tim. I’m on the coast in NJ. I have a 2006 Ranger Extended Cab, 4x4 4.0 XLT. I want to remove the 6 foot standard bed and replace it with a Step-Side bed of any year truck that would correctly fit my truck. I would love some knowledge on this subject. Please reply. Tim

Check out your local junk yard and see what they have. Being in the rust belt you may not find any good ones.

Recently repainted the honeycomb section of my new to me grille satin black to fix the fading. Not seen, but I also replaced the license plate lamp housing as the originals were cracked, and I also ditched the carpet I added in 2015 for an OEM vinyl floor from the same truck I pulled the hood and grille from. I'm really glad to have this truck back to what it was in 2014 before I made some questionable upgrades that I ended up hating.

Driving running errands the other night, suddenly got the "low battery" light to come on, and the voltage gauge was dropping towards L. The dashboard camera I have shows the voltage going to it, and it was only getting 11 volts. Battery is only 6 months old if that... Yeah, no question what was going on. Ordered the new alternator online from the parts store as I was waiting on my son at daycare and made it home right as things started to go wonky (ABS light came on, RPM dropped to zero but engine still running). Took out the old while waiting on the wife to get home, then a quick trip to the parts store to pick up my order and popped in the new!

All told? That was the factory alternator on a truck 20 years, 5 months old. I cannot complain at all about that quality!!!

I was wondering about my 2005's aging alternator and water pump. The odometer reads south of 60K but time kills.
How many miles on your 2003?

Just under 190k. Bought it new when I was a single guy. Too many short years later I'm married with 2 kids, so it mainly just runs me back and forth to work and around town. Need to "upgrade" to something more family friendly (i.e. F-150 crew cab), but with the insane prices anymore I'm better off just keeping my old one going.

Nice. Should have no issues running to the Mall or Supermarket.

I don't plan on going to Utah to go rock crawling. Sorry to disappoint you.

I let it sleep late and got into the Lexus for a trip to Corpus. On Sat I am installing a tailgate wrap, a Texas Flag, if I can figure out how to get the badges off of the tail gate. Looks like the bolts are INSIDE the tailgate and not accessible!

No bolts.... they're glued on. The 'bolts' are just alignment pins that match holes in the tailgate.

Get a tailgate from a Mazda, no badges, no holes.

Added a RANGER decal on the tailgate. And put some brand new 31/10.5/15" shoes on her.
