The "What did you do to your Ranger today" thread
#2807
Oh, the horrors...
I FINALLY got around to starting my clutch "project" today.
Took the rear driveshaft off only to realize that I need u-joints on both ends. Had to grind off one of the bolts holding the yoke to the transfer case. NOT good. Now I have to find a way to get that out.
Got the front driveshaft out and realized the rubber boot to the cv joint is torn. CV joint is in pretty ad shape...
It took FOREVER to get the top starter bolt out! Something short of 2 hours? Finally found an easier way to remove it but damn it turns out the bolt is bent and was nearly seized into the bell housing.
As for the transfer case... forget it! Those bolts are on there WWAAYY too tight. Already rounded off the head on one and the others are impossible to get to.
LOL also found out that the crossmember holding up the tranny is broken in two places Looks like I'll be digging out the MIG welder again...
Tranny mount is shot, too. No idea where to get one of those.
By this time, I was soaked, exhausted, and running out of light so I called it a night.
Looks like I'll be getting a TON of parts sandblasted and learning how to use POR-15.

I have before pictures of it and how I prepped it. The after pictures are on my dads computer I will have to dig them up. We sent pics into POR and they refunded the money. Also my friends is starting to bubble up as well on a frame he sand blasted and it has been sitting in a garage since the POR was applied

Finished speaker replacement: left previous owner aftermarket speakers in doors, replaced Ford speakers in rear panels. Replaced 5 bulbs in instrument cluster. Added Ultra-Gauge, at least for duration of fixing EGR path. Pressure washed underneath bed from previous pinion seal leak to see if the leak is persisting (no oil leakage in driveway).

Removed and tested the EGR valve, would operate but not hold vacuum...looked original due to some rust on the diaphragm section, so ordered a replacement w/gasket. only about $52 or so for the ford parts via tascaparts.com (and only about $8 more than aftermarket parts). EGR tube looks ok (not caked up enough to reduce diameter/flow). Took two shopping stops, but got a T20 security bit and removed the MAF sensor, carefully cleaned with the appropriate spray solvent. The Ranger factory repair manuals arrived today (used/worn as described, but seem to be complete). So no departure from the driveway for the Ranger today.

I picked up some stuff at home depot monday night and got home late so I didn't unload it until this afternoon. Only about 100 lbs of dirt / mulch / little stuff ... My wife pulls in the driveway as I am finishing unloading and notices that the truck is still leaning to the passenger side... I'm wondering if the torsion bar is fooked ... I already know the spring is well used at this point but didn't think the t-bar would be this bad... ugh... I'll look more later...

Slowly getting the work done on my clutch project.
Took the skid plates and drive shaft in to get bead blasted today. Skid plates came nice so I primered them up real quick. I will POR them later.
Still waiting on the U-joints to come in so the driveshaft can't be bead blasted until then.
Also, found out my front driveshaft (prop shaft) needs to be replaced. $300.00
Next, still waiting on a reply to this thread:

Gotta get that piece off so I can get it bead blasted and get that bolt out.
