Transmission/ clutch issue?

I have a 2003 ranger xlt 4.0 4x4, 5 speed manual transmission. The transmission blew on me a couple weeks ago, tag on the side says 1L54-MA. Called around to a few junk yards and found one from an 2008 ranger, it's L854-FA, they said it was compatible. Everything looked the same and everything went back together fine. Truck moves and upshifts fine. When I'm in gear going down a hill its like the clutch disengages and engages really quickly. Also if I try to downshift from higher speeds I get a grinding. I can shift into the gear while down shifting just fine but when I start to release the clutch pedal there a load grinding sound and I can feel it in the clutch pedal, not the shifter. Once I'm at a lower speed I can put it in any gear and continue on like nothings wrong. About 2 months before my transmission went I had to replace the slave cylinder and did the master cylinder while I was at it, had no issues with the clutch for those months before the transmission issue. Basically I want to know if the transmission I got from the 08 ranger L854-FA is compatible with the one that came off my truck 1L54-MA so I can first rule that out
