We can't catch a break with the weather.
A couple weeks ago we had 2"+ ice & 6"+ snow with lines & trees down everywhere, today we get 50mph+ winds (luckily the tornado's missed us) & more trees (mostly limbs that didn't fall before) down.

Pics ASAP. I need to get some shots behind my roll pan too.

If you have an ext cab, there's no room back there for people anyways so use that for your storage. I keep all my tool boxes and emergency stuff in the ext cab so that I don't have to put a box in my bed taking up space. I use my bed for hauling stuff and with the tailgate down it's only 7.5' long, and when you don't have a fullsize, you need all the space you can get. The narrow width of the bed doesn't help much either.

Toolboxes FTL.

I had a friend in HS that his dad had a camper shell but same concept. He put tracks on the floor of the bed and on the bottom of the tool box. That way he did not have to climb in to get to his tools. The tool box came to him.

If I ever bought a truck just to put a shell on it I'd buy an SUV instead.

I have a reg. cab...and I don't really put a lot in my bed. I want the tool box for extra storage and the tonneau cover so I can put stuff in such as groceries and luggage and not worry about it flying away. So to you toolboxes are FTL but for me they are FTW.

pivot

locking mechanism

The tonneau is recycled from my original (don't remember the brand name) that came with aluminum rails & plastic snaps.
The seams started ripping off the snaps & it was a pain to unsnap & roll it up so I made a treated frame that sits just inside the bed rail protectors.
The cover sets about 1/4" above the bed sides & when closed, it fits snug up against the bottom lip of the toolbox.

Construction is pretty simple, 1"x1" treated decking for the frame (rounded edges over to eliminate snags), the corner braces are more treated decking scraps. Glued & screwed together with exterior glue & screws.
I even re-used the old aluminum bars to add a little curve to the top to keep snow & ice from building up on the top.

A couple of carriage bolts up front for the blocks to pivot on.
The blocks near the tailgate have a bolt that slides through the bedside lip & hold it in place. The bungee cords hold the back side of the cover down when I have wood or something else that won't fit under the cover.
It takes less than a minute to pull out the bolts on the back side (tailgate) and slide the cover back off the front bolts.

I use the 2x4's to support 4x8 plywood until I raise the tailgate.
The back one keeps groceries from sliding all the way up to the toolbox.

It ain't pretty underneath but it works perfectly for what I need.

In that case, then I do agree.

Wow, i've looked at this thread a couple of times and completely forget this is what I built on my last truck. Not the best pics, and I don't have any uploaded of it open.

Ive got a box and tonneau on my bed. The tonneau is an extang...payed like $230 for it. This setup isnt completely waterproof but it does keep the bed dry for the most part. Ill try and get pics up at some point.

You don't happen to have a step-by-step guide on how you made your tonneau, do you?
