I had a plastic handle on my '99 as well. You know what I bet it is?! I bet it is the XL comes w/ the plastic handle while everything (or at least the XLTs) come w/ metal.. Diabolic has an XL and my '99 was an XL Sport. The replacement my dealer sold me was prolly for a higher trim. Anybody buy that?!

That's what I'm talking about. You don't have to adjust the latch unless it is whacked. Just make sure the gate isn't binding on the latches. They adjust up and down and side to side by loosening the bolts. At least they used to. I just looked at an '05 and it looks like they are not adjustable anymore.

Over the weekend one of my gate support cables failed. I had my other Ranger 10 years and the cable were fine. This thing is three years old and the cable snapped in two. It's all corroded inside.

Well, maybe the old ones were galvanized cable and the new ones aren't? Think we should shoot some oil down in that plastic sheath from time to time?
