wow got the motor off today.....how easy that was except for the brown wire that goes into the t-case.......i had to cut it off (near the plug ofcourse so i could splice into the new plug)......went to O'Reilly Auto Parts, they said the "Control Trac" (BW4405 t-case) shift motor was a dealer part......shat i bet that dude cost more than $200......

i switched out the selector switch on the dash with no luck in fixing the problem.....checked all the fuses, non blown.......so my last option i guess is that shift motor.....

Trace out the wires and put 12 volts to it. If it runs it's not the problem.

The brown wire is the 4WD clutch I believe. It is in the 4x4, might be something more related to AWD in the ControlTrac.

holy hell! for a Ford t-case shift motor it is going to cost $275 (and that is at a discount from a buddy who is a parts manager!).....for an aftermarket t-case shift motor it is $124..........

the Ford garage said it is more than likely the GEM........how do i go about testing that thing to make sure it isn't it.......for a new Ford GEM it is going to cost $225........

and to replace the GEM (if i get a GEM out of a wrecked Explorer) does it need to be 1 out of a '97 with the Control Trac 4wd or will any 4wd Explorer GEM work?

That's a good deal. Only cheaper way really would be a JY if they'll let it go separate. If Mark's is a good one, I'd grab it for that price.

Provided that yours is really bad, lol.

Mark, sweeten the deal and find him a speed sensor too, lol...
