Strobes

Always weirded me out when I was in NY when I'd see someone pulled over by a cop w/ flashing red lights. My first reaction was always "Why is the fire department pulling people over?!" Freshman year (I was in Western NY for school) I met a guy w/ a pickup w/ a light bar w/ blue lights. He was a local kid and a volunteer fireman/EMT for his town. One day I asked him why he was impersonating a police officer. He gave me a real dirty look..
This strikes me as one of those things that could probably be worth standardizing across all states. As a NH resident I'd like to suggest that everyone do it our way: anybody can use yellow/amber no questions asked, red is used by fire and volunteers by permit only, blue is police only. Flash yellow and be ignored, flash red and you'd better be a fireman, flash blue and your in a world of hurt.. Right?! Cool, now write your congressman..

Seems like there is tension every time that this gets brought up. I have strobes in my heads, tails, and also have 4 tir3's in my rear window. I rarely use them, but when I do, it is either while letting my presence be known when servicing a vehicle on the beltline, or I will use the yellows when working with a friend of mine repo'ing a vehicle.
I use them sparingly and will be using them in an upcoming show as well as for show purposes upcoming as I have now been sponsored through work to display lighting effects for vehicles. They have already supplied 2 LED strobe controllers, another whelen 90w strobe kit, arrowstik, and have on order an AMBER led strobe bar for the roof.
I ran a set of the autozone strobes for a day, ripped them out, threw them away and installed a whelen setup. You can't even see the autozone strobes in daylight, and barely at night.

Nice... I always wanted to move to cali, until i learned of that new law or w/e that said EVERY car, no matter how old, had to pass a smog machine (we called 'em E Checks here) test. I like the Govenator, but WTF, a '32 Ford wont pass, nor will a Shelby Cobra 427, WTF was he thinking. I know smog is retarded but damn man. So Ohio and Florida looks good to me man. Ohio doesn't crack down so bad, they take forever to respond to street racing, and never look for tinted lights and ****. Some dude was turning left with blue turn signal bulbs when a cop pulled up next to him, I was behind dude and his Explorer, cop just waved at him. So... i think they would notice it during a traffic stop tho.
Do you think cops know what to even look for besides the plain sight stuff? I dont think so.

when i had my s -10 i had green lights up under and all in the cab and i took a poper switch ( the one where you just push it in and push it agian and it pops out) worked in under the steering wheel cause i took off the panel covering the bottom part of the dash and screwed a hole and everytime i wanted them on i just push that button and then again to turn it off. I got everything from autozone except for some extra wire which i got from a hardware store

As far as a switch to kill the lights, thats always been one of my ideas, have a lighted switch that kills every light, even if i had 1000 lights, they would all have be turned off by that switch.

Indiana (or at least the part of it I live in) has no smog check. Nothing. And the police don't enforce too much either. (Example: Exhaust limit (noise), strobes, different colored lights: clear corners with blue, ect.) Or much of anything else. I actually just sold one of my cars today. A '87 Camaro IROC-Z (1,000 cash in my pocket to throw into my ranger) with 3" straight pipes all the way back. Then again, I use to own a Hearse that had a 454 that ran off the headers. I miss that car. Either way..
Just don't be an idiot with the strobes, and decide to throw them on going down the highway for the fun of it, THAT may get you in trouble.

I know here in Texas its kinda all out I have several friends on VF and they run red , blue lights or LEDs and white strobes in thier head and tail lights , our cops cars havce every color red blue and white plus strobes and amber caution lights and off duty is same princeable as VF . And your in deep if your caught with anything unless your construction , wrecker , load escorting , or landscaping unless your on off road . But even then you can only have amber and head and tail strobes nothing else .
