Stepside bed owners
Hi all.
I have owned this particular ranger (2004 supercab fx4, 4.0 stepside) for almost 2 months now and am getting it set up how I want it as funds allow. This is my first step side bed, and I have some questions about it.
1) I have been told the bed is fiberglass. Is it completely fiberglass? Should I treat it any differently than a regular truck bed?
2) The factory tie downs are very similar to cleats on a boat dock, I'm not impressed with them, I don't like the way tie downs hook to them, are there other options out there that anyone has tried?
3) Could I add a track system with tie downs mounted in it, would that put too much stress on the bed rails.
4) Has anyone had success with a spray in bed liner in these beds?
Most of the time i wont be hauling anything, but I do like being able to throw a dirtbike in the bed if I'm the only person going, instead of taking the trailer.
Thanks everyone.

Many folks have had good sucess with it, preparation is the key.

Only the fenders are fiberglass, the inner tub is steel. No need to treat it any differently.
You could try adding aftermarket tie downs. Still only gonna be as strong as the sheet metal bed, unless you add some material to the backside to carry the load
Many members have had luck with spray/roll on liners.

The sides are fiberglass, the inner portion is steel. Just treat it like any other bed, really.
As for tiedowns, I personally like 1/4-20 eyelets. Remove the old tiedowns, drill and tap for 1/4-20.
Works very well. Also allows you to use a chain with a washer in combination with the eyelet.
