Right?!?! For that purpose, the Ranger fits the bill EXACTLY. Lots of moms and pops get their kids into Rangers. I see it all the time.

My first truck at 16yo was a cherry red 1986 Ranger reg cab short bed, 2.0, 4spd w/OD that my mom gave me. I modded it back then, into what I wanted, even without a such thing as a Ranger forum. lol I miss her like crazy!

I'm 34 now and still own two running/driving Rangers and three (parts) BII's. I've had more than I can remember almost. All were pretty great trucks, except maybe my 89 model with the 2.9 heap-o-crap under the hood.

this is why the ranger is doomed. There is no reason for people to replace their old trucks. So little has changed, there really is no reason to buy a newer truck. I bought an 03 level II because it had the manual transfercase. If they made a 2011 level II with manual transfercase Id be driving that instead.

One of Fords main arguments was that the Ranger sales have slipped. It's like well duhh, they have been the same from for 10 years. No major updates and even the last face major lift was in 2004 with the minor one in 2006. And the powerplant and gas mileage are a joke on the current truck market and they are asking the same amount as the other manufactures for half the stuff.

You might want to check the Colorado and Dakota forums, word is that they are an endangered species just like the Ranger. And if im not wrong, i think Nissan is considering getting out of the US small truck market as well. It might be down to a decision between the Toyota Tacoma and the Toyota Tacoma if you are looking for a mid-size in the near future.

Dodge has already confirmed that the Dakota is out and they are replacing it with the new Rampage. And I have also heard tell that the Colorado is out. It is due for a redesign this year and GM has zero plans to do so.

The Ranger has been a great first truck for me.

My first truck was a 1983 ranger with the 2.0l 4 in the floor and just a little over 500k miles. Damn thing burned more oil than gas but other than that it was a great little truck. Fast forward to today i have an 87 ranger with the 2,3 and 5 in the floor. This one has a new engine with 28k miles on it though LOL.

That Dodge Rampage is the SH*T!! As far as offroad ability - eh...

Dude is dodge going to do something right for once?

HeloMec 01-27-2011 08:44 PM

The Dodge Rampage is a 2006 Concept Truck I just don't see it happing. Plus Honda is Killing the Ridgeline. The only new small or midsize truck you can buy in the next couple of years will be Nissan or Toyota.

i emailed them almost the same thing about a week ago and got practically the same response

Question, will the new Ranger be sold in Mexico? I believe the standards are the same as I see quiet a few Mexican Ford trucks running around up here. What does it take to bring a mexican truck into the U.S. ? If you can purchase one there and bring into the U.S. with not to much hassle then I see an opportunity to get what we want and maybe force FoMoCo to provide what we want.
Any Mexican Ford dealer folks who may provide some enlightment on this, and stir up some business, please provide information.
I remember seeing on some forum someone brought a Mexican Ranger Crew Cab over. So it can be done.
Thoughts?

Yeah, that is a response that shows on what hurt Ford all these years: They do not listen to what people want and will just force feed us not only products that do not fit our lifestyle but are almost as ugly as the dumb (smart) car!
Ford, not all of us want a full-size pickup. I like my small Ranger because it is not a pain to park and I don't need to haul sheets of lumber or drywall although I could.
If you take away our beloved Ranger, we will shop elsewhere and when you are in financial crisis again, we will just point our finger at you and say, "I told you so!"

Wanna know the reason for that.....it's cause of the price tag on their trucks, some of em go for 60,000....thats outrageous. The only people who can afford them are rich old men and they don't wanna shift hauling their RV's and boats. Plus the quality of their trucks are **** compared to chevy or dodge full size trucks......

Typical corporate response... Bastards....

If they would make it in a true 4 door and give me more power for my lack of fuel economy I'd stay with the ranger.... But as it sits, I'm moving up to a 4 door full size...

I've had my mind set on a FX4 - 150 for quite awhile, went in to the dealership it has a Red one on the lot, but not what I want option wise ( Blue with the Leather seats and tow package , trailer brake kit and 4.10 gears) however they do have a Raptor 4 door with everything I want ( don't care for the larger engine but I thing I could live with it ) if they can drop the price tag about $5k I might grab it.... I'm trying to put off until march... Don't know if I have enough willpower to wait that long though....

Um, WHAT? The quality of a F-150 is **** compared to a Ram or Silverado? Way to prove that you don't know anything about full size trucks. You obviously have never driven any of them either. Maybe you should look up sales numbers. I'm not being biased just because there is a F-150 in my driveway, but I can't believe someone would actually believe that a Ram is better than a F-150 and a Silverado.:laugh:

Y2KTJ 01-28-2011 02:04 PM

Dodge did one thing right with the last truck, It made me want to drive it.... right off a cliff.... Did they fix the Hemi issues yet? Brother in law had his for 6 months and it was in the shop for 5 of them Lemon law trade in...
The Chevy full size is about as out dated as the Ranger in appearance....
