First off its called a "Waag Sportster Bar" or something like that
It doesnt hurt the approach angle. It mounts from above the bumper and Between the tow hooks. There is nothing below the valance.
You can completely keep your tow hooks BUT you have to switch them side to side. One of mine had a factory cross-threaded bolt ALL THE WaY IN.
It was a major bitch to get out. There was a 240# guy hanging on my 3ft breaker bar and heaving on the thing and it wouldnt budge.
Also the other bolts have LIMITED clearance. Air tools would have made it MUCH easier. Other than that its easy to install. It took us 1 hour to get the dam tow hooks off and 1 hour to do everything else. Including removing and replacing the skid plate.
Oh and I was feeling sick so the lights took me about 2.5 hours to wire and I broke my switch and had to get another one lol.
Rand
Some pics
Dont mind the clutter in the pics I cant seem to find my good pics right now. If you want closeups of the mounts or anything let me know.

Thanks for the clarification. I would definitely get one like that over the kind that wraps around the valance.

It would hurt MY approach angle slightly -- being as I removed the valance.

if you feel that my opinion made you dumber, well I'm sorry. But taht is how I feel abotu safari bars. I think they are worthless. Well I take taht back, if all you want is a light bar tehn ok. but tehy dont offer any protection really. If you had any impact they would crater the front bumper.

redneck: I am far from a newbie. maybe on this board, but not to teh ranger community and offroading. You can ask christian on that one.

I am not trying to offend any of you guys, but I will say how i feel.

Ah, with less "colorful" language, my opinion of them is about the same. I don't think they are crap, I just think they have significant drawbacks in certain situations and you have to think about what you're wanting it for carefully.

Jeff, remind me not to appoint you to any "diplomatic posts", lol!

I reiterate: they are purely cosmetic. I beat the crap out of my full brush-guard this weekend on a couple wrist/arm sized pine trees! I'd post a picture, but I seem to have misplaced the CF card for my camera! :-o
