Rusted out bed bottom
Recently bought an 09 sport 4x4 with 100k 5 speed one owner just has a bad bed bottom sides and all that are still in good shape . Wanna fix it the best way possible, sort of interested in replacing it all and doing a wood bed or cutting out the bottom and welding in a new piece and replacing parts holding the bed to the frame . Any thoughts ideas would be so awesome

Welcome to the forum
Nice looking Ranger, not RED but still nice looking
Regardless of what you want to end up with, you will need to repair the metal in the bed if you want to keep those sides and tailgate
You will need to take the bed off and then cut out the rusted parts and weld in new(used) parts
In 2009 there are 8 bolts(torx-55) that hold the bed to the frame, then tail light wiring and Filler tube
Two guys can then move the bed off the truck
The gas tank, EVAP system and wiring is under the bed so you do not want to try and cut and weld it while it's in place, lol
It needs good metal from the frame out to supports the sides, you can add wood strips like this: https://s1.cdn.autoevolution.com/ima...er-31894_1.jpg
But need to have good metal to mount them to
All Ranger regular cab and extended cab 1993-2011 used the same size 6ft bed, but there were Flareside(stepside) models that have narrower beds, you have a Style side bed
You should be able to buy beds with damaged sides cheap they are worthless really
Up to about 2005 there were just 6 bed bolts but same placement of bolts after that for the 8, Ford just added 2 more in between the 6, so earlier beds are fine you just need to drill 2 new holes
You can buy Bolt Kits that have the 8 bolts, rubber washers(between bed and frame) and fasteners for the frame
Rust is caused by oxygen, not water or salt, OXYGEN, so its everywhere, lol
So prime and then paint any metal parts, this prevents contact with oxygen in the air
Paint can't stick to bare metal
Primer can but is easy to scrape off, soft
Paint can stick to primer
So Prime then paint, not one or the other, get a good seal so no oxygen can get in
Water and salts speed up rust, but don't cause it

Big help!
Thank you dude my goal is to do something like that link you sent me . But worst case I’m gonna pull the bed cut the metal and replace it . Also need to replace the strut or whatever runs across the frame to hold the bed to the frame it’s also in bad shape and get the bed supports underneath at an angle between the cab and the tire . Sorry not to knowledgeable with the part names
