recently aqquired a trailer...

and sadly I have no means to tow it... Its mainly so I can haul my lawn mowers around to cut grass (side job)

my truck came with no kind of hauling equipment except for putting a ball in the hole on the bumper. I'd rather get a nice trailer hookup. Can I go to a automotive store and just buy one and it will bolt up or do I need to go to the dealer :-(

Thanks.

Assuming you buy one that fits your truck, the box will tell you what frame width it will fit on

alright cool. The trailer is big enough to put a 4-wheeler on or a Riding mower... I haven't seen it in person. my dad just told me to starting looking for a receiver cause he knew I didn't having anything to take it home with, lol

Cody, go to Walmart or Advance and get the Reese Class III towing hitch for compact pickups. It says right on the box what it fits. Thats what I bought for my 94' Ranger. It bolted up great (except for fighting gravity and a few stuck bolts on truck). There is just a little assembly. It looked awesome too! Looked like it was there factory. I think it costs about $110 at walmart or Advance. Then at advance you get a T-connector that plugs right into your factory tailight plugin. Then just zip tie the excess wire for the trailer hookup. Its really simple and you should be able to do it all yourself like i did

I'd go look at junkyards, hitches came on a ton of rangers and you'll probably be able to get one for 50 bucks or less. Just hit it with some black paint and you'll be good as new.

Personally I would buy a new class 3 receiver that comes with new hardware and everything. Just get one that is bolt on like this. I bought a round tube receiver like this from uhaul for the sport trac.

Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch for Ford Ranger 2007 - 70181
You can get 5% off using one of these codes or find it cheaper somewhere else.

Uhaul has the similar hitch (with a slightly lower rating) for $140 and you can probably buy it locally.

If you don't have the four pin trailer wiring, you can get the harness from a dealer. There is a Ford plug under the bumper that the harness plugs right into, it's plug and play.

Get a ball...stick it in the hole in the bumper...you won't overload the bumper with just a lawnmower or atv.

If they came standard after 2008, it's probably just ford trying to use up parts.

Summit Racing. The shipping doesn't cost much, I had a hitch shipped to the door for less than $180 bucks. Kinda the way I would go.

I bought a brand new one out of a Rigid hitch cataloge that was sent to me, gave me dealer pricing. Class IV hitch for $140 I think with free shipping. Also bought a 2" aluminum drop hitch...I think that was like $25? Home
