Rear-ended

For some silly reason I decided to finally start taking the freeway home. It's not more than 10 miles or so. Of course it was bumper-to-bumper stop and go. Some doofus came from about 5 car lengths back to run his volvo into my bumper - fortunately he made SOME attempt to slow down. Truck is mostly ok, but the bumper and tailgate will have to be replaced. Who knows what else could be wrong...

well at least you know it is his fault. have insurance get you your money and put on a roll pan instead of a new step bumper! then just find a used tailgate in good condition and have it painted

Thanks, and yes I am fine. We waited about an hour and then he decided to take the offer from one of the vultures and fly off into the sunset. Everything was pretty calm until I let the guy know that I had called the police. I was quickly back in the truck to cool off, call the police to let them know I was leaving, etc.

Man! That Volvo CLOBBERED that crap! It looks like you got lucky there is no damage to the bed side. Where is the tailgate damage.

Tailgate damage is mostly bottom middle. It shows some scrape marks where his hood touched it, maybe when it popped up. His car was definitely worse than mine. Turns out his insurance is no good, what a shock.

if you look closely, the bottom of his tailgate is pushed in

and definitely put a roll pan on that. will be cheaper than a new bumper and looks way better

Can those be had matched to factory colors? Otherwise it will be an extra expense I suppose. This is an uninsured motorist claim. Also, whose roll pan would you recommend?

^^Why would you do that? If he puts a roll pan on and gets rear ended again, he will f*ck up his bed as well. IMHO I would just put a new bumper on....

Maybe a better bumper. You know, one that can handle the weight of your average person standing on the corner of it

I say put a regular bumber on it and put a hitch on it, that way if it happens again your truck pretty much ok and other vehicle smashed up, unless they are bigger than you
also a brush guard really helps to protect you when you hit somebody in the rear

and if you put a hitch in....build a receiver that has an 8" spike sticking out of it. that way it goes through their radiator....oops

Chances are if he could not afford insurance he can not afford to pay you. I would try to get something from him though.
