I have a 95 Ford Ranger 2.3 and as I was driving in rush hour traffic on the freeway I was in the diamond lane and there was a slow moving vehicle in front and when they tried to get over I took my chance and gun did a little bit in second gear and as I was trying to shift into third I get it in position and then when I try to give it some gas it just revs and then I tried to shift into fourth and it did the same thing but I was able to downshift back into second and it was working again and then I also tried going into fit and that also works as I was getting off the freeway I went into a parking lot and I tried third again while I was just in a stall spot and I tried to ease off of the clutch to see if it would catch and sure enough it ended up it ended up catching into third again so I'm kind of confused on what may have happened or why I would have lost it and then got it back all of a sudden cuz right now right now as I'm driving around 3rd and fort work again but for some reason that moment on the freeway did I had no response at all there was a little grind noise trying to go into third or fourth with the clutch out but it would push right in and it was something the noise was only last for a second but I would still just get revsand yeah as for right now all my gears work again randomly for some reason which I won't complain about but it leaves me really confused on what may have happened on the freeway to initiate this issue again 95 Ford Ranger XLT 2.3 5speed

 

How many miles on the clutch? Maybe on its last legs and time for a replacement.

 

no idea so you think its a clutch issue and not the transmission? I have been having issues getting into 3rd for sometime oh new discovery if I actually get it into the gear and then I pump the brakes it will actually engage I'm sorry not pump the brakes pump the clutch it will engage into gear and I can actually go in third and fourth
PS I think pumping the clutch thing was a one off because now it's not working
PSPs it will go into 34th at low speeds are at a light but when I'm at any speed around 20 it just doesn't want to engage
