Petition to Bring the Global Diesel Ranger to America

Hi guys, my name is Chris DeMorro and I'm a freelance writer and diehard Ford enthusiast. I write about all kinds of different vehicles, and I'm very well rounded in my vehicular tastes; I'm as enthusiastic about muscle cars as I am about electric vehicles. I also love trucks, and while I was at the Detroit Auto Show Ford showed the press its new global Ranger.

It's got one of two diesel engines, up to 346 ft-lbs of torque, and the smaller diesel engine can get up to 650 miles on a 21 gallon tank. That works out to 30 mpg in an economical small(er) truck.

And Ford isn't bringing it to America, which I quite frankly think is bull****. I've talked to some people at Ford, and they said to even consider it, the response would have to be "staggering."

Now I don't have to tell you that Ford plans to axe the Ranger and make the F-150 an entry-level truck. But if you're like me, you don't need a full-size truck, and 23 mpg just don't cut it. However, Ford is listening these days now more than it ever has, and I think if there is a chance, however slim, that we can get Ford to bring this diesel Ranger to America, well hell I just want to try.

I started a petition to bring the diesel Ranger to America at one of the websites I write for, Gas 2.0. It's an alternative fuel website, but lest you think I'm just some hippy plugging his work, I also write for powerTV, which focuses mostly on muscle cars. Like I said, I like all kinds of vehicles, and I would buy one of these diesel Rangers in a heartbeat.

But I need your guys help, and I'm going to other Ford truck forums with the same message. So if you're down, help me spread the word, and just leave a comment on the post so I can show Ford that they are making a big mistake by not bringing this truck to America.

I'll be honest with you most of us do not like the Global Ranger (the T5 I believe they call it). We don't like the styling at all. We do want a new, redesigned Ranger but not what they are offering overseas. For one the T5 is 90% of the current F-150. Part of the appeal of the Ranger is it is close to 60-70% of the F-150. We want a compact size pickup. Not a midsize trying to be a fullsize.

im for it.... if ford wants to ax the us/can ranger its on them, but it wouldnt take much to get the global ranger here.... and the diesel alone would be great. i will say this.... We (as ranger enthusiasts) like that our rangers look different that the global ranger, but we would like some of the options it has, ie. diesel and 4 full doors. However, it looks too much like a Frontier and needs some styling changes.

long live the ranger

Diesel is the way to go. Lots of low end torque, we have low sulpher diesel now and better on gas. Cold weather staring may be an issue though.

30 mpg ? Not in this country once all the emissions crap is added.
Have you even looked at the price of diesel fuel lately ?
Where I am it's 40 cents a gallon higher than regular (87 octane) gas.
Sure , diesel engines in other countries get great mpg's , but the powers that be won't let that happen here .
Gotta keep the shareholders happy.

Let people have an opinion before you post some nonsense. If you didnt' take a poll and actually gather the information you have just cited, then you are just blabbering on about some BS you caught in a thread somewhere, and posted it as the opinions of "most" ranger owners. Sometimes your opinion is not wanted or correct and I would prefer if you not speak on our behalf. If YOU do not like the styling, and YOU want a new re-designed ranger, and YOU want a compact sized pick up... then that opinion is yours and yours alone to voice, but do not say WE, because you cannot accurately speak for everyone on this matter.

On the other hand, I would be all for a new ranger, regardless of style.I don't think it looks all that bad anyway, almost like a Sport Trac. I would especially like a diesel that gets 30 mpg. Also, a crew cab would be awesome. The ranger could be a little bit bigger, but definitely not near the size of the F-150.

Man you are really on my case today. I hope your wife/girlfriend knows you are using up all her tampons.

Anyway if you look back as the NUMEROUS 2012+/Global/Next Ranger threads you will see almost everyone who posts in them agrees that the styling sucks. Not everyone, but a majority.

I don't ever want a "global" Ranger. Sure, a diesel would be cool to have but they can keep the rest of it. I like the regular old Ranger platform. It's familiar, the perfect size, and easy to work on although I know that will go away more every year.

They'll bring the Ranger back in a few years anyway. Automakers always do..

A diesel powerplant option would be cool. A decent powered one at the very least. Nothing kills a diesel! Well, the cold lol

Nothin' personal bro, but it seems like no matter what thread I open to read, you have a comment on it. Most times it literally is pointless to read what you write. All I'm sayin' is, let people speak up for themselves. You have your opinion, so does everyone else. No need to sum it up for everybody when that might not be the case, people may have changed their mind?

Is the styling perfect? Nope. Is the size perfect? Nope. Is having something for a ranger instead of nothing in the future good? Yep. Does Ford care? Doubt it, lol. Plus, if you read over the past threads about what people want in a ranger... some have listed a crew cab as an option they would like and this new one offers that. And a fuel-efficient diesel would be sweet for towing and stuff.

Cool then we agree to disagree. You will continue to see and ignore my pointless comments and I will continue to post them.

Back on topic, I agree that the almost everyone wants crewcab and diesel. That is FOR SURE. But almost everyone who says that agrees that they don't want it in that styling. Do I want a redesigned Ranger? Heck yes. Do I want crewcab? Heck yes. Do I want diesel? No, but I think it should be an option. Do I want a V8? Yes, or a supercharged or turbo V6 Do I want it to look like a truck and not a Ford Edge? YES YES YES Even if the truck came to the US with all the options I wanted I would be hard pressed to convince myself to get one with the current styling.

I would like a crew cab diesel ranger, but considering they are 20k plus I wouldn't get one if Ford had one here.

Ya, I'm gonna agree on Ryan about this one. It seems like you post in almost every thread and your information is almost always useless. No one cares. I just sit and do alot of reading on here. It seems you try to post in everything. Your all talk and just a waste on here. Sorry, thats how I feel. Don't post like you have taken a consensus of the whole forum. We can post our own opinions. Now your gonna tell me that is a forum on the internet and you can post where ever you want. No one cares. /End Rant

I'd love to see a diesel Ranger here. Don't know if I would buy one but would be interested. The style on the Global Ranger isn't all that great but would be happy to see some changes to it.

I can totally respect your opinion on the looks. That said, it isn't ONLY available in crew cab...there is a regular cab, long bed version as well. The looks I'm sure are polarizing, as is the way with most vehicles.

But commercial fleet owners aren't thinking "What vehicle looks best?" They want the most bang for their buck. They want versatility and good gas mileage. The diesel Ranger has both. And don't give me that EPA crap, VW and Mercedes both figured out how to bring powerful, efficient diesel V6 engines to America, Ford can figure it out too.

They very bluntly told me they weren't bringing it here because they don't think Americans will buy a small diesel. I think they're wrong. That's why I started this petition. I genuinely want one of these trucks, and from the sounds of it some of you do too.

I like the idea of keeping a ranger model in America, but I'm not to fond of the global version. It's more of a crossover with a bed. The Ranger is better for a lot of truck owners because of it's size, off road capabilities, is relatively inexpensive, and while gas mileage may be a concern, I don't think it should be a focal point for any truck model. A truck is designed for work, and a car is designed for practicality. Ford's best move would be to (not to drastically) redesign the current American Ranger and offer it with the current 4 and 6 cylinder, along with an option for the new 5.0. It would be cool if they created a new diesel for it, along the lines of a 4bt Cummins. It's not appealing to me, but I think a crew cab ranger would excite a lot of people too.

And they should bring back the Stepside! haha

As long as Ford kept a full frame under it, I wouldn't care about anything else they wanted to do. They could offer them in pink only and I'd still go for it. lol I don't like the route that auto manufacturers are going with all of this unibody crap.
