Parking Brake Install Connecting?

Parking Brake Install Connecting?
Hi y'all
(1996 Ranger - XLT - 2.3 - 5 spd, - 2x4 - ext cab)
So, I just attempted the installation of a new rear driver side parking brake cable... at least 98% completed.
Being about 3 inches to short, with the parking brake released, I can't seem to connect the rear cable to the front cable at the connectors
The WB of my truck measure approx. 125"... the new e-brake cable is supposedly for 125" WB. I should be good, right?Curiously enough, the whole thing seemed longer then the original.
Ok, I have to be doing something wrong... It can only be one of 3 things. Either the part I bought at the Lazy 'A' was incorrect (which is very likely), I did something out of order, or there is an adjuster thingy that I'm simply unaware of.
Please let me know of and tips, tricks, advice or wisdom that would solve my current dilemma.
Much appreciated!
