Painting a driveshaft, thoughts...

So I have been thinking about painting my rear driveshaft like a barber shop pole, so when it spins it would look pretty slick. Probably sounds cheesy to some but for some reason I think it would be cool.

For those that don't know what I am talking about here is an example.

Except on my truck it would have a Sonic Blue Stripe and the other stripe would be bare polished aluminum.

You can see alot of my driveshaft from the passenger side and i thought it would be cool.

What are your thoughts on it?

unless you are creeping along it spins too fast for any visible effect
colors just blur

even with city driving would it be a blur at 30mph??? It probably would and I figured it would not be that visible but it would be noticeable in a parking lot etc...

I dont care if it does not show for 90% of the driving time but the little detail would be cool.

^ Look who's back.

Like Neil said, the colors would blur together pretty quick. There's definitely better things you could spend your money/time on.

EDIT: If you are looking for detail, maybe do a bunch of work on it with sonic blue, like tribal designs or something of that nature.

I think that the weight of the paint may make it vibrate (I know the paint will weigh almost nothing). I know when my buddy had a plastic bag wrapped around his drive shaft it vibrated like crazy...

I would normally agree, but I have the paint and tape already, time it would only take an hour or so.

oh I know it does not take much weight to through it off but thin little stripes should not effect it, if it does then i will get it rebalanced.

Well if you have the stuff and are willing to get it rebalanced then I think it would be a cool mod. I know I have never seen it on any car/truck before!

Edit: Also, if you make the stripes far enough apart, you might be able to see it spinning at slower speeds.

I think it would be cool. You wouldn't be able to see it at any decent speed, but people would see it when you roll up next to them at a light. Think about the little car in the right lane and you pull up next to him in the left lane, what's he gonna see? A barbershop driveshaft! It's definitely useless but kind of cool at the same time.

White and black wouldn't look half bad. The Germans painted their propeller spinners with spirals such as that in World War II.

get some of the removeable blue tape and use it as the "paint". Wrap it around and see what it looks like.

Zach,

I think it would be cool. But only for a while. With the snow, weeds we drive threw I think it would only be cool for a few months. I dont think a gallon of clear coat would even hold up. Just a thought.

Sounds like a neat idea, but I honestly think it would take away from the look of your truck.
