Newbie here, need help please...
Hi everyone, new here. I am having a couple issue's with my Ranger, it is a 1984 2.0, 4 speed, what its doing is running real rough and will not idle, but runs good at higher idles, as long as I keep the rpm's up I can drive it down the road fine but it does smoke a little and seems to be a little rich, with a little popping from the exhaust. Also when I turn the key on I get a steady clicking noise coming from the carb. Any help would be appreciated, thanks
Things that I have already changed are
Head Gasket,
Had Head Redone, new valves. pressure tested,
Plugs, Wires, Cap, Rotor,
Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter
Was running this way before all the new parts, still runs the same after, I'm clueless at this point

id check a few things. first, no idle says the carb needs to be rebuilt and re-setup. if the truck still has cats, they could be clogged, causing too much backpressure at idle and shutting the motor down. if its backfiring, the timinig may be off, you could have an exhaust leak or again the carb needs to be adjusted.
thats about as for as i can help ya, as i dont know the motor personally. around here those trucks are for the most part off the road from rust.

Thats kinda what I was thinking, the carb most likely could use a rebuild the truck has sat for the past 3 years. The carb and cat are the only things left to do everything else has been done. For an 84 ranger it has no rust on it everything is still original could use a paint job though, the only bad spot is the drivers floor board has been patched up, and it rides down the road like a Cadillac lol
