My Truck Is Totalled!!!

nah, no need to feel like a vulture. like i said, if i get to keep her she's up for grabs. lol i think i can have half the parts sold in a week if everyone on all the ranger sites are serious. you wouldn't believe how many pm's i got. i'd be the same way. there's so many good parts on this truck that alot of this stuff is probably gonna get let go pretty cheap. especially locals since i won't have to deal with shipping as much.
i shouldn't count my chickens before they've hatched, but i'm really crossing my fingers on this one. it'd be awesome for me and anyone who needed these parts.
edit: the more i think about it, the more i think i could really make that yellow ranger sicker than it is. *bites lip*

I know the feeling. My Edge was totaled 2 weeks after I got it. If the Insurance totals it, and you have a place to put it, buy it back. The salvage value is only going to be between $1,500 to $2,000 on the buy back. They may claim more, but just stick to your guns and they’ll come down. I got $11,750 from the insurance with buy back rights. Bought it back for $800 Spent $6,500 to fix it and put the difference in my pocket. Personally I would have it fixed. See if you can run down a junk ranger of the same year and engine and pillage all the under hood parts you need and take it into a reputable body shop.

Sounds like a good idea... damn, there was a EDGE in the junkyard I go to that I got my seats out of that was Sonic Blue... the damn thing had the front wrecked though... I check the local junkyards and see if I can help ya out some... I'm sure others will do the same! It would be a shame to not see your truck anymore! We gotta rebuild this thing!

Hey Travis, glad to hear things are coming further into focus for you. Sudden losses of vehicles can be pretty damn emotionaly difficult.
I don't have experience with buying back from the insurance company or parting out my vehicle.
But, I would like to urge you to stick to your guns and don't settle for pennies. If you are using one, let your lawyer fight for you with the insurance company/Optima . Don't settle for BS...make sure the lawyer is doing what you are paying him/her for.
From what others have indicated it sounds like a little patience and some back bone and some way you'll come out at least where you were monitarily.
And hell, if you have to build a new one, isn't that half the enjoyment?????
Oh yeah, I dig the yellow truck to. That would be cool and, considering what you did with the truck in your driveway, I'd like to see what you do to the next one.

but anyways, since the bumpers rnt for sale, i want the rims.. if at all possible, one of mines got a dent that shakes on the highway haha and the edge ones look better then the 99's
thanks

Thanks for the support guys. I will deal with the sale of items once I get word that I can keep the truck. Don't go getting your hopes up.
Chucks got dibs on the rims and tires though =]
My truck is now back in my parents driveway, I got all my paperwork filled out and notarized, I scanned the documents to the insurance company, I got the originals sent via registered mail, and have hard copies and e-copies =].
It's starting to look like a better day. Although, I drove to three different notaries. One must have moved, the one died, and the last one I went to; I had to bang on the door for five minutes cuz the old lady was running the vacuum cleaner. lol Then she wanted to argue what year it was, she looked at the calendar in amazement. Poor old woman, it was kinda funny though.

I don't really see how the E-fan controller could send a surge to your battery that would cause that, only drain the battery until dead and being a yellow top it was designed for that abuse so there is nothing odd there.
More than likely the controller was toasted because it was so close to the battery when it erupted or the fire just melted it.
Has anyone actually been out to determine if the battery cause the fire or if a fire caused the battery to explode? with the evidence on hand and not being able to see anything in person I think it was a fire that caused the battery to explode. Batteries just don't exploded without any reason, and it would take an extreme and lasting surge to push it to exploded. if it were a breif surge it would puff out the side and expell gas, but not explode.

I realize this is none of my business but he already said "I will deal with the sale of items once I get word that I can keep the truck". Let him get his stuff straightened out before you go asking for parts. He's not Napa. He wont forget to sell parts. He has a lot to deal with. Geez.
(I'd like your seats...just kidding :)

^^lol, it's cool. Just hate to see you guys get your hopes up and something should happen that I can't get the truck back.
Karpe, I've had the battery from full charge to fully drained a few times with absolutely no issues. It never ever gave me a problem. My motorcraft battery could not take what I dished out. It had acid bleeding from the terminals like a **** within months of purchase. That's why I got an optima.
The fire dept. deemed the battery as the cause of the fire. The truck is now in my parent's driveway and both esurance and optima are sending out independent claims adjusters. Optima is even sending out a forensic scientist find the exact point of origin. I looked at that controller again and even the wires weren't connected to it anymore, everything else the wire shields are melted but intact to the original device.
