Sorry for your loss. I know how I felt when I lost my Ranger. I am still sad its gone, I really liked it. DOnt make the mistake I did, though. Buy another Ford. I love my colorado, but not as much as i did my ranger.

Not entirely true. I was offered buy back on my Ranger after it was totolled. It would have cost me 2k or more to get it back (dont remember exact price, but it was around 2000-2400). Anyways, with my wheels and roll pan, stereo and other misc. parts, I would have done good to get the 2k back. And on top of that, I would have had to strip them and ship them. Too much work IMO just to break even.

I'm guessing they used the drivetrain from an explorer since those come with
4.6's and AWD available

Hell, with a buy it now price of under $16k, I'd be willing to fix the speedo, odo, and tach. It's got a pretty sweet Ford Racing tach already in it. I can get that sucker to pass emissions too I've got a buddy down at the local ford dealer. It throws crazy codes from upgraded engine and auto to manual swap.

Wow. I think I'm going to the same and stay away from Optima as well.

I was actually thinking about upgrading my battery to an Optima until I came across this thread better hope that Optima comes thru as well.

Seems like everything that you had electrical wise was up to par, I've never heard of a battery exploding.

I've heard Odyssey Batteries hold up pretty well though and I may do that as my next mod. I just have to figure out if these can hold up just as strong though.

Something like this:

Military Grade

:edit:

From what I've read about these batteries they're pretty hefty and alot more durable than regular wet cell batteries, I've even heard about others using them in their cars.

Thats a turboed Honda Prelude with the Battery relocated next to the intercooler, don't let the look and size decieve you though I've heard those smaller ones pack alot of power.

Everything in the engine compartment is f*d. I'd say, aside from the front suspension, the firewall to the nose of the truck is trashed. I'm just really pissed that they emailed me release forms for my truck then never return any of my numerous calls. They're def not getting the truck til I have my buddies inspect it. I mean the Harrisburg Fire Chief and an adjuster from the local Ford Dealer Body Shop. I would really like to know what did this to my truck. I can't imagine what would've happened if I were in it driving down the road. *Sigh* Fire extinguisher was always on that to-do list....I can't sleep right now (not that that's unusual). I just can't stop thinking about my truck.

i agree with D totally. I would go after the manafactuer of the battery. I mean, the insurence company could in theory, DENY your claim all to gether just over the simple fact of the aftermarket battery./.... something to think about. Seriously, start going after optima, and you may also want to speak with an attorney, since you may, probably wont, get anywhere with out some legal muscle behind you.

Yeah, I'm going to be stopping by my lawyers office in the morning. Find out his thoughts...*sigh*

I didn't see anything. lol I left my truck after I locked it. came about an hour, hour and ten minutes tops, and there was "Danger Hazardous Materials" tape all over my truck. The front end was cold and there were no fire or police personnel to be seen, much less thier vehicles. After five minutes of frantic phone calls, a security guard was like "is that your truck". I was dumbfounded. It was perfectly fine an hour before. That's another thing that makes it so crazy. I swear somebody sabatoged me. I just can't believe that less than five minutes after I hit the lock on the keyfob my truck burst into flames. It would've took the FD at least five minutes to get there. So within fifty minutes my truck is trash and everyone vanished. I'm just dumbfounded. I just don't know what to think. I'm still in shock. I'm still in the community college taking a fiver and I'm gonna wake up. This will all be over soon.

Sadly, I know it's not a dream. I'm gonna write up a rough draft email to send to optima. I know you guys will give me some good input.

Sorry to hear about your loss Travis... I know we were talking about your tail guards and lights, but this is def. most important to solve the situation. I have a yellow top and it's making me think a lot about it. I hope everything works out man!

Holy crap dude, this TOTALLY sux! I really really liked your truck too!

I like the ford one-off yellow truck...it's one off!

I'd for sure go after the Insurance company, Optima battery, contact the store where you bought the battery and ask to talk to THIER Optima rep, and yes...contact a lawyer if you cannot get call-backs. Companies hate calls from lawyers.

Being married to a lawyer (sorry...wrong type of law to do you any good) and having to go to these damn functions, they are all a bunch of bull-dogs!

Oh my gosh! Dude that blows. I'm so sorry. Keep up the fight. Optima definitely has a big part to play in the end result. I wish you luck man.

EDIT: A lot of people are reconsidering Optima batteries. Why? One battery in how many thousand explodes and it's a concern? Driving on the road endangers your life every time you drive but you don't reconsider that. If you blackball every brand that has a problem you might as well sell everything you own. I'm searching Google for stories of similar occurences and can't find any. I'm not saying they don't happen, but obviously they don't happen enough to warrant any major news stories, recalls, blog entries etc... I'm still searching and hope to find more but this is no reason to think Optimas are all going to explode one day.

I think everyone should drive with their headlights on today in memory of his truck.

That really sucks man. Kinda makes me not wanna get an Optima battery.....in fact, you basically talked me out of it and don't even know it.

Sorry about your truck.....that stinks. Hope you can get it all worked out.

I guess I agree with that too....but it would bother me. I'd be looking out the window at my truck all the time after seeing that. My garage is connected to the house....if the truck goes up, ill be lucky if part of the house isnt damaged.

Its funny, no one here at work knew what the point of an Optima battery was. They thought it was so you could match your battery to the color of your vehicle.....uh.....no.
