No, in 2004 and up Rangers they did, if the odometer is an LCD display then it could also be stored in computer, but if its a wheel and gear odometer then it won't be

Slight correction my 2002 will read from the ecu, took it to an AutoZone and it pulled up on OBD2 but I did the 2000 and no luck, when mentioned the comment he said no odo reading

Good info about the 2002, the computers ODO must be set by speed signal so may be close to instrument cluster but may not be as well

And it does make a little sense, in 2001 Ford brought back trans or transfer case speed sensor, and that ran direct to computer, computer then change the 20,000ppm signal to 8,000ppm and sent it to speedo/odo, so computer would have more reliable odo, in theory, lol
But computer odometer has no function, as far as swapping out a cluster

The 2004 and up have the hybrid cluster(HEC) which actually compares cluster and computer odometers, so you can't swap clusters

Thats not entirely accurate...

How do I know?

because I sort of ran out of warranty for mileage a bit too soon... so I sorta cheated by disconnecting the odo via a fuse... *innocent*

I did that for a year... so my mileage on my dash vs the mileage on the truck is off by about 10K miles, and my truck never threw a temper tantrum

Weird, I tried what yours did and the odo didn't read but the pcm did but no errors as you described, maybe not connected to pcm
