Maybe time for a fullsize?

I've been seeing this F150 along the road a couple miles from my house for a while, but was always going too fast to read anything off the for sale sign. I finally stopped to check it out. It's a 99 F150 XLT, 4.6L, 5 speed, 4wd, with about 94,000 miles, the A/C even still blows cold. Dual exhaust, body lifted on 315/75-16s (35s?). It has a salvage title, and the seller was right up front with that info. He says he bought it that way a year ago, and doesn't know the details of damage. Wants $5000.

I've been looking at fullsizes for a while now, as a fullsize 4wd is just more practical for my uses than my ranger is right now. I don't like getting stuck in the sand every trip, and my quad doesn't fit very nicely in the bed. I measured this one, and it will fit without having to fight it. I'm wondering what kind of mileage I can expect from it, and if it would even be worth it. I'll have to put the ranger up for sale to be able to make the switch to another rig.

Nice looking truck. Vehicles with salvage titles scare me though.

If that particular one is what you want, go for it, but I wouldn't get one with a step side or a regular cab. I would want the 6ft bed with all the width I could get out of it and a full size reg. cab is more useless than a Ranger ext. cab., You can't really haul people in the back of the Ranger, but at least you have more room for junk.

Looks sweet. Id rock it. But I agree with Rob on the salvage title. Id go have it fully inspected before you sign the papers.

Yeah, its really similar to my truck now, only more practical for me. Reg cab stepside with the middle displacement engine and a manual. The difference is that this one is lifted, 4wd, and fullsize. Therefore there is more room behind the seats for junk, and the bed is much larger, even though it's still a stepside. The only reason I can find to turn it down is the salvage title. I can't even find any leftover evidence of damage. The guy said that (according to the previous owner) because the airbags went off, it was automatically totalled. I know airbags are expensive to replace, but enough to total a truck? My truck went backwards through a ditch and plowed through a post in a barbed wire fence, and probably should have been totalled, but it still has a clean title.

The salvage title is not bad. If you drive it and it drives straight and runs fine go for it. My truck was totaled and it has no problems.

ive been driving a truck with a salvage title for 7 years. its doesnt mean much if it doesnt bother you. if the trucks straight and is mechanically sound buy it. its a good looking truck.

Your nuts.

1. It has a junked title.

2. Looks to be scratched to hell.

3. B/L & Crap tires= She was rode had and put away wet! A few times.

4. $5k 90,000+miles not even for one in good shape with a clean title.

Sorry dude not to be a ball buster but this is far from a good deal.

I wouldn't get it. As a previous owner of a single cab short box full size, I am telling you that you will hate it. Especially with a stepside. Then again, you aren't going to upgrade from much. Just because it's bigger then the Ranger doesn't mean much, IMO.

But hey, if you want it, go for it.

x2, the potential of problems/headaches is not worth it.

Besides your Splash looks great now that it's dropped and pin-stripped! I watched the paint progress closely.

Well, someone else can have it. I drove it, and apparently it wasn't regeared when they put almost 35" tires on it. The 4.6 doesn't pull tall gears and big tires very well, my 3.slow can probably outrun it from a stop the way it is now. And even though he said he just had the brakes done, he got screwed cuz the parking brake doesn't even work. There are just finally enough small issues stacked up to kill the deal for me, but someone else will probably love it to death. I'm still looking for a more practical ride and trying to sell the splash though.
