Looking at Canadian Ranger...differences?
Hey all,
Ran across a Canadian Ranger for sale thats here local in the area in Michigan. 2008, FX4 Off Road. I went and built a 2009 on the Ford Build it Now website for 2009 and it says the Torsen was an optional axle in the '09, so I assume that it was an option for '08... Besides the "SYNTHETIC ONLY" tag if it's still on the rear diff, is there a way to tell besides spinning them in the slick stuff and seeing if two dig?
The truck has a Canadian Window Sticker, all spelled weird and stuff. Has block heater, the Pioneer sound system, 16" Y-spoke wheels with brand new rubber, red and black two tone seats...
Looks really nicely kept -- just interested in the rear diff, making sure it does or does not have the Torsen.
If it's a L/S, it will one-wheel-peel, right? The Torsen I know locks and throws me sideways...
Tell me any oddball things to look at, I am going in the morning to check it out.

OP, yes, the torsen was an option in the 08 trucks. the red interior was not. i'm guessing that that truck had the interior swapped out. the only two coulors that were available were black with grey inserts and tan.

good lord... that looks like 4 different rangers in one, PASS on it. Regarding the torsen.. it is a limited slip and only does its job in the rain by spinning both, torsen sucks so even if you find a non torsen truck buy it and put in a proper locker
few things out of place:
like whats been said, the front bumper, the sport guages with fx4 silver trim. That dash has clearly been apart, my guess is its been totalled at one point and rebuilt with a white sport parts truck

I don't think the front bumper looks out of place, if it has the colour-keyed rear bumper (ie white, not black) then its supposed to be there. I agree the full white doesn't look right but you never know, maybe something was missed from the factory or it was touched up. It has the chrome mirrors and side steps, so IIRC it should have a non-black bumper. The seats definitely do look out of place, it should have black leather IMO, so either the PO didn't like them or they got torn/worn out and he replaced them. Its odd that a Canadian truck has gone south, its usually the other way around cause generally stuff's cheaper in the US due to the population size difference/marketing.
I got a Torsen in mine, its never bothered me and has always done its job properly loaded and unloaded. Its never spun me around unexpectedly and has always locked up when I've needed it. You might have to sometimes load it up with the brakes but it does what I want it to without the quirks and ratcheting of a Detroit. Much better than a Trac-loc IMO.
I wouldn't worry any more about it than any other used vehicle, just make sure its already had the proper federal vehicle inspection done and all the paperwork on it is legit. As usual always check the VIN as well. LR

Guys!!
Thanks so much for the well informed replies. I was half sleeping while looking at this and thought the color of the dash didn't match the rest, but didn't put 2 and 2 together...
The bumper never struck me as odd, and the interior color came up as a 2009 option, so I thought it would be original.
The truck is listed as one owner, I will ask to see the title to see if it has an "A" title. I was wondering a well if the thing was legal to drive in the US, but I am [relatively] sure that a dealer wouldn't sell a bunk truck like that, but you know how they can be. It's a HUGE dealer in Michigan, so usually they're on their game. Bought from them before.
I am gonna take off here in a few minutes to check it out, I will let you know what happens.
It's listed as having 68,000 "miles", but if it's showing km's, it's got 39,000 actual miles, which would be more in line for mileage of a 2008.
Anyway, off I go. Again, thanks!

fact is that bumper and guage cluster is NOT the original for this truck and underneath the steering wheel you can see how the dash has been ripped apart and put back together poorly. Im sensing a bad truck and I personally wouldnt even bother looking at it.
you cant go off the odo becuase its not the original.. you'll never know how many miles are on it.
