Installing CB right NOW need help !

I am installing my cb radio right now but i'm stuck.i got all the wires run so its time to mount the cb . I have a cobra 29 classic .

I'm mounting it between the sun visors . There is the brace running from the back , to the front, just before the visors there is a small hump going from the passenger side to the driver side . The holes line up directly on this hump going side to side and basicaly in the middle of the other ridge going front to back .

I tried a 3/4 inch self tap screw and that didn't hit anything . I probed around with a drill bit and it seems pretty far up to the brace...

do i need longer screws or do i have to cut a hole in the headliner ?

I tried taking out the dome light to have a look at the brace but it didn't really help me .

Your best bet will be to cut some slots in the headliner for your CB mounting bracket to attach to. You might need to pull down your a-pillars and roof trim pieces and visors to drop the headliner down a little bit so you can get your bracket up above the headliner. Two small slits through the headliner should let you slide the 'ears' of the bracket though. Then just some small self-tapping screws into the roof brace (be careful they're not too long, or they'll come out the roof!) should secure the CB bracket pretty well.

I had a different solution (he PM'd me and I read it before I saw this).

I suggested using longer screws with spacers. Just some kind of metal tube around the screw to space the bracket out farther.
