I'm about ready to ditch the explorer its pissing me off

Icon8 I'm about ready to ditch the explorer its pissing me off

Seems like a new issue is popping up every day with it. I still have the rattling noise and ford cant figure it out. They had it for an entire week with no luck. They said they dont think its mechanical. Possibly exhaust but who knows. I'm also still having a BAD viabration issue on the driver front wheel area. It did it before I put brand new ball joints on it. I have had 3 different tires on it one of them being on the factory wheel and it still does it. It gets bad once I get over 65 and just gets worse the faster I go to the point of making the steering feel real floaty. I'm very close to demodding it and just selling it

The rattling probably is exhaust and the shaking could be a wheel bearing, alignment, or the wheel could need to be rebalanced...Since you changed the balljoint, my guess is alignment is off.

Alignment is fresh along with new hub bearings

Sorry to hear that you are having problems.

Could the vibration possibly be an issue with the brakes? (thinking about all possibilities)
Bent wheel?

Its a long shot but by chance is a stud bent on the wheel? Had this happen and it would almost walk me off the road.

Yeah I would get your wheels re-balanced and see if one is bent. I had a bent wheel and that's exactly what it would do.

Bent wheel?
Brakes are brand new all the way around. Did it before when the old brakes were on it too.

Shouldn't be its all brand new pretty much and it did it before any of it was replaced. Wheels are brand new also. I'm gonna try and get them rebalance/rotated to see if it changes, but I doubt it will.

Shouldn't be as it did it before with the stock wheel/tire.

Ok here is a scary yet possible thought. Maybe the knuckle opening for a the bearing is worked a little bit and allowing some movement? Its got to be a hard part that you didnt replace if it still does it? Only reason I bring up the knuckle is I had a dana 60 so it to me and it was bad to the point of having the knuckle machined then a new piece put in to make it work with the spindle

Another long shot.
Unbolt the bottom of the shock and work it in and out a couple times.See if it's working. The tire may get a slight bounce to it and the shock isn't dampening the way it should. The bounce couldn't be felt much at slow speed but turned into a vibration the faster you go.I've only had it happen once in 30 years.

Tie rods maybe? Have you checked for play?

I'm going to go with the balance being out for the vibration. When i got my km2's mounted for the first time they balanced them at the same time. about a week later the truck used to shake really bad when i hit 45, even worse if i hit a bump it was horrible. Got them rebalanced for free at the place after talking to a few people and it was smooth sailing from there.

Not getting these new ones balanced for a week once they go on a truck.

I would guess a balance issue too... try getting the road force balancing done somewhere... or throw some bb's in the tire... it's a long shot, but maybe it'll work?

one other question. when you drive at 65 or faster is it always on the same road? my truck will pull and vibrate like crazy when i leave my parents house and it scares the heck out of me every time but when i start driving different roads it goes away. and have you tried flip flopping ur front tires? just switch the LF and the RF and see if you still get ur vibrating that might help rule out the tire part. after that go after the tie rod ends my truck was getting a good amount of wobble in the steering wheel and i had a tie rod end that was shot.

have you checked driveshafts? they need to balanced as well. a bad bearing in the diff could do it, a cracked or broken rear drum or front rotor can cause vibration. how about the front cv's? check for a torn boot, any contaminants in the grease will ruin the joint and make it shake like a *****

I only get the balanced at ford which thats what they use.

Couple different roads, but the main one is I-565 and they just redid it this summer and its smooth.

Front DS has very little play. CV's look to be okay, but I wondered if that might be the problem. Gonna take it to ford this weekend for an oil change and have them see what they might be able to figure out. I dont want to get rid of it, but if I cant fix it. I just might.

might be long shot but have tried asking for a go pro cam or something you could set to watch the front wheel from underneath to see if theres a chance on watching whats shaking or moving oddly? ive had this idea to check on some vibrations on the truck i cant find yet just havent got the chance with a cam yet!

You feel the vibration in the steering wheel, or floor?
My moneys on the Knuckle, or the Driveshaft. these trucks aren't know for the greatest treatment of CV shafts either. When your feeling the Vibration, throw the truck in neutral and let is coast for a few, If the vibration changes, its a driveline issue.

You'll get it figured out... It will **** you off that you cant figure it out...but as long as you dont quit, you will find it and it will **** you off that you couldnt find it sooner.

You said there is very little play in the front DS? There should be no play...Or at least there was no play in my ranger or cougar...

If you can't figure out the front end, don't demod it. SAS it.

But I hear you on the hard-to-find vibration. I'm dealing with the same thing. I've replaced my bearings and shocks, rebalanced the tires, and cheked everything else. I can't find anything remotely loose. I haven't actually had it aligned, but it's been doing this for over 30,000 miles, and the tires are worn perfectly even. No signs of bad alignment at all, no feathering or cupping, either.

I hope you figure it out soon. Hate to see you get rid of it.

I'll have to try that. It is in the floor, but when it gets bad enough it will cause the steering to get unstable feeling.

Yeah maybe like a 1/4" worth of play when rotating it by hand.

If its in the floor, then its not front suspension related. Its drive line.
to be clear, you should have zero play in the drive shaft unless your really reefing on it. I'd check your U-joints in them.

I've seen that at least 6 times. Almost always overlooked
