Now would just be silly.

Not sure where you heard that, but what I've read is that the diesel isn't available until mid 2015, as a 2016 model. I haven't seen anything about them producing it for a limited time.

the North American international auto show, they were saying first year of production is going to be available with a diesel. Maybe they are waiting to see how it sells.

If anything, Ford should bring the international Rangers to the US. Just make them pass emissions.

I think the diesel's will sell like hot cakes. The next small Ford truck should definitely have a diesel option if they want to stay competitive. Who knows, their might be a 4.0 eco diesel.

It is almost an F-150 in size, so wouldn't count on that.

Because of a special trade exemption with South Africa it makes it possible to import the Global Ranger without tax penalties to the US, BUT(big but) there are many emissions and other hoops you must jump thru when doing an import like that.

I is not an almost F150 size. It is almost dead in between a F150 and the old Ranger in dimensions.

Exactly

I only see Ranger coming back if they go back to smaller package, with a good 20%-25% better fuel economy than best full size, but with enough power to get out of it's own way, thinking small turbo-diesel, or small V6 gas.
Target market for DD and light hauling, not a "work truck" per say.
I think Ford just lost the plot with all the changes over the years and ended up with a truck that was an F-150 without the benefits of full-size but with all the downsides of a full-size, so a Global Ranger.

That would be an acceptable compromise for me. As long as a reg cab version was still sold with a stick and 4cyl or smaller v6, I'd be interested.

You are so correct. It must be smaller than the F-150 because if it is close the same size as the F-150 people will opt out for a F-150 every time because the F-150 has proven itself all these years. To me a new Ranger will needs to be as small as the old Rangers. With the technology now a days we could give it a fuel efficient engine that make at least 30 miles per gallon and still have pep in its step. The problem lies in trying to keep the cost down. A few more years of crunching the numbers and ''BAMB'' a new Ranger.
