If Ford brings back the Ranger what stays and what must go?

I like what I am hearing. I love to hear peoples opinion from all sides, but if you are on my thread to talk about your F-150 and how it is better than a Ranger please shut the hell up. Either answer my question or go drive your POS F-150. Thanks to those who actually answered my question.

I read half the thread, here's my opinion.
I love my ranger, however it's lack of a rear seat and inability to hold 4 people comfortably, lack of v8, same mileage as an f150 and ride (even tho I've done the coil over mod costing me $1000) are making me look at getting an f150. When I bought my ranger I looked at this, a fusion and an f150. I went with the ranger as the "bang for buck" was in favour of the ranger. I paid $28k for my 4wd, xlt, ext cab. A reg cab fiddy in fx4 trim would have been the same or very similar in price.
I don't like the look of the sport trac, have tall friends, and can get into an f150 for a little more than what I paid for my ranger 6 years ago. $30k
If I did so, I'd gain towing and hauling capacity, something I don't have now when I know I can use it in my offroad camping trips with friends. Of whom I've met on this site.
The fiance has a journey that if I keep the ranger will be the family vehicle. It has more power then our beloved ranger. It's the same motor found in the minivan and jk.
In short, I'm glad I bought a ranger as I've met great people I might not have met if I bought a fullsize. However just like fords decision to axe the ranger, I've out grown it and there is a 50/50 chance I'll be driving a fullsize ford by Xmas. I'm also an average sized guy @ 5'8" tall and 160lbs.

Sorry Ross's Ranger, it looks like your thread has been jacked lol.
In all honesty, I'd like to see Ford keep the starting price right around $20k for a low-option reg cab if they brought something based on the global Ranger. That would put it right in line with the Colorado, and $5k less than a base F-150. A 6-speed manual and N/A 4 banger would be pretty fun to drive and get easy 30s mpg highway, I would buy one in a heartbeat.

Crew, we sat in an fx4 crew the other day. She loved the amount of room back there. It would come in handy loading a baby seat or two in the future, my buddy's are tall. We always have to take his crew fiddy cus him, his wife and us don't fit in a ranger.
The sales guy said if I wanna modify the truck like I did with this one, I'd be better suited in an xlt. I can save $20k+ ($57 down to $30), and do things like go aftermarket to get rid of the chrome. Plus 17" diameter tires are cheaper than 20". The only thing I'd do is a leveling kit and 33's.
The sales guy also said it might be easier to find an xlt the way I want it over an fx4 in October.
However, like I said 50/50. We wanna pay off the wedding and our honeymoon first.

Thanks to those who still believe in the Ranger. For those who simply want to brag or boast on their F-150 just go to an F-150 forum. No where in my thread did I mention an F-150. Compact truck will always have advantages over full size trucks. Their is one bright side to all of this, there will always be plenty of used Rangers out their. Once again thanks to those who stayed true to their roots and enjoy their Ranger.

What do mean when you say it would have to be close to the size of an F-150. All Ford has to do is three things.
1. Make a more fuel efficient V6 engine that will get high mileage with little problems.
2. Keep the same old pre 2011 body style but add a four door model and bring back a step side model
3. Up grade the interior with a more luxurious look.
Other than that nothing else has to change and is certainly dose not have to be the same size as a F-150.

Nice Ranger. Unless you have a growing family or need to tow or haul a lot you made a big mistake. Yes I have looked at the price of a Tacoma and to get a fully loaded one you are looking at 30 grand. If you where to buy a fully loaded F-150 you will be up into the 40's. Back in 2011 you could buy a fully loaded Ranger 4x4 or FX4 for around $27,000.00 before taxes. It is not the Ford Rangers time at all. Look, Ford is going to bring back the Bronco next year and many people said years ago that is was the Bronco's time. The Ranger just needs a few minor adjustments like I mentioned earlier and the Ranger will do just fine. Lets not forget one last thing and its called INFLATION. Back in the old days cars and trucks didn't have fancy things like MP3 players and back up cameras. All that cost money to put into vehicles. You have to remember that technology ain't cheap. Lets face it a small compact truck can be made and sold in the high teens or low twenties with money to be made by the manufacture and money to be saved by the consumer.
Well at least you made the right choice buy buying 4 wheel drive. Hard to see the 4x4 sticker in the picture. Since you don't seem to be into Ranger's anymore or F-250's you cold have at least purchased a FX4 F-150. I'd bet money that my stock suspension Ranger 4x4 could go in worst conditions than you F-150 simply because it lighter. Don't want to start a pissing match
Well now I know that some people like big trucks and some people like small trucks. He can cruise in his F-150 and I will cruise in my Ranger. After my 2010 Ranger was totaled I could have used the insurance money to buy a F-150 but it wasn't for me. Now getting back to my original thread, a new Ranger would have to have better gas milage. I must say my 2010 Ranger had excellent gas mileage but it was a 2.3. My current Ranger which is a 4x4 with a 4.0 and mudd tires is not nearly as good on gas. Other than the things I mentioned earlier and gas mileage the pre 2011 Ranger is just fine to me.

Confused????
You can upgrade a Ranger, nice paint, brush guards, ect......
You could buy a newer Ranger, but really isn't an "upgrade" either, just a newer "best vehicle made"
You can get a smaller car or truck or a bigger car or truck but I don't think that could be considered an "upgrade" by any known definition of that word.

I still have my long bed 06 Ranger. The 2.3L is fine with a manual transmission. Since my kids have all grown up and moved out this really wasn't a bad choice. It meet a price point and does it's job without complaint. While giving outstanding gas mileage. I have owned two other Rangers years ago, a 83 long bed manual and a 88 supercab 4 whl drive manual. Have liked all three at the time. Own a few F150 trucks in between and at the time liked them also. If they would sell the long bed global Ranger I would definitely consider it, with a manual transmission. Since that is highly unlikely I will probably buy a short bed F150 standard cab in 4-5 years before I retire in 6.

No you didn't. You never mentioned what must go and what must stay. You brought your stupid F-150 into the equation. Learn how to read and properly answer a question.

Yep - I agree.
But clearly he wants you to just agree with him... Then he won't display all this butthurt.

sigh...
ok we get it. Your opinion of your Ranger is that it that got horrible mileage, bad ride, slow, etc. Sorry that tainted your opinion of compact trucks but they're not all like that, and some of us are still hoping for a new smaller truck to be offered. Rehashing that is contributing nothing to this thread except continuing the pissing match. As a mod, you should know that. Please go to another thread. Back to topic.
I agree with Bratman, I'd like to see a longbed reg cab, return of the 7 ft bed would be nice. I think it would help with the proportions as well.

The Ranger needs a better rear view mirror, the rear view mirror has too narrow a field of view, making it seem like your in a shoe box. And removable head rests, head rests are a total driving hazard.
