i think im gettin rid of my truck

im sick of the gas mileage....I take care of my truck yet the interior is falling apart and now someone keyed my car along the drivers side bed which i cant afford to get fixed cuz i know my rents wont pay for that.

Possibilities...

02-03 Lexus IS 300 12-17k..

02-04 tacoma

04-05 Scion tC

Im done with american cars the insides are outdated and they wont last as long as a toyota plus with gas hitting 3.25 a gallon i cant afford 55 dollar fill up every week anymore.

Good luck. I can't see how buying a diffrent car is going to save you money.

Side note, I think that the Ranger interior is one of the best ones on the market! Sure I would/have changed a few things, but overall I love it.

tacoma interiors are the weak. they are way old school lookin...

not to mention, the tacoma isnt gonna give any better gas mileage prolly. ESPECIALLY after the butt raping youll get on trading yours out...

No offence dude, but "would you like a little to got with your "

I'm a driver for domino's I work full time 40+ hours and put 93 in my truck and drive about 2500 miles a month. You gotta pay to play. If you dont like driving an american made product go buy a honduh and never have to worry about gas or it breaking down ever again.......and just think your putting your "hard earned american money in a non-american pocket"

I whole heartily support your selling the Ranger. I'm sure the Lexus, tacoma,or Scion forums would love to have you. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. :)

I understand about the gas milage. BUT...it could be worse.

My 2003 Honda Element gets worse milage. 15 gallon tank that I have to fill up 4 times a week. With the Ranger I only have to fill up twice. Plus, I have no car payment and the insurance is cheaper. So...savings for me.

You may want to look at a new VW Jetta TDI. EPA is 42mpg but Road and Track couldn't get worse than 49mpg. Jeez...you'd think the EPA could put some accuracy controls in place!!! :)

Also, there are quite a few new deisels coming out. Jeep has one coming out that gets around 25mpg in a Cherokee!!!! Holy Crap!

Now, all that being said, what the HECK is Ford thinking not releasing that deisel Ranger here and only releasing it in Thailand!?!?!!? Idiots!

seriously i looked at the tacomas they look nice but just nothing like the ranger.

plus new car payments, not to mention the added cost of insurance for a newer vehical, and you have to add whatever you owe on the one you got now to your loan.

think about all the other **** you buy that you prolly dont need and put it towrds gas. or better yet dont drive as much. that is what i did.

If you were really worried about the gas thing...you wouldn't be running those tires. Just like the people who go out and buy 20-22 inch rims and wonder why the hell they get crappy gas mileage. If you have a 4x4...it's not Ford's fault you elected to not get a 4x2. Think of it this way...you can still get the Tacoma, but how long until you get those tires on it and then start complaining about the gas mileage, again?

Not trying to be a dick, but I'm tired of people whining about their gas mileage and they tend to overlook what they can do to not make it so bad. Do you think people with Hummers/Escalades are complaining? Oh yes...but who made the choice to get that oversized tank when they could have gotten a CRV for an SUV? I get 28 mpg on my truck, and I don't complain. There are ways to improve your gas mileage that eventually pay themselves off.

Get a Smart car, They get great gas mileage and can do everything a Ranger can do, Heck I'd tow my boat with it. Maybe a little off-roading. wonder how much a bodylift is for one, maybe even an RCD suspension life. Not to mention chicks dig guys with small.... Cars. You could get all the tail you want with this car, but you'd have to use the roof, because the backseat if for Rice cake and fruit storage only.

I dont have 31's on there anymore i went back to the stock tire size awhile ago

The tacoma is built here not in japan there new plant i believe is in texas the state where the most pick up trucks are built. Toyota said they built a plant there to take better care of their workers so they can pay them more and live where the cost of living isnt to expensive compared to detroit....

I dont pay for my car and it will be paid off next month anyway.....Im not gonna support an american car company who wont support my tastes and needs....Give me a truck that will last and ill take it. Everyone on here knows a tacoma will outlast a ranger any day of the week actually any toyota in general...You dont see taurus driving around with 400k on them but ive read about a few old camrys and corrolas lasting that long

So you say you want a new car for better gas mileage because the price of gas is going up, but have you looked into the lexus it doesn't get any better gas mileage then your truck and requires 91 octane or better so no real savings there. Also buying a used highend car is not always smart, think about repairs they are not going to be cheap. Lexus also only rates their tires on the is300 to last only 25,000 miles so that means $700 plus for tires every 25,00 miles.

Don't get me wrong the is300 is a great car, I looked into getting one when I got rid of my Jeep but instead I picked a Lincoln LS because I just could not bring myself to buy a foreign car. Gotta Suport American companys and because I work for Ford.

Yes some do but that is not going to cover the tires and other wear items. Plus you say you want to save on gas not happening with this car.

The Lexus is a really fun car to drive, with the auto trans it has a manual shift mode with F1 style paddles on the steering wheel.

If you want a car for gas mileage and money savings why not look for a used Yugo.

read this review on the Lexus http://www.familycar.com/RoadTests/L...LexusIS300.htm

I know the Lexus is more Appealing but I just don't think it is a very practical car for someone trying to save money. But then again my parents don't pay my truck payment.

eh, my truck a 4.0 auto, 4x4 with a 250LB power washer in the back of it is getting around 19mpg in the city. I havent done any long road trips with it, but if i spend alot of time on the thruway i get about 21mpg not bad.

I think ur prob is more with your foot than with your ranger. as with most vehicals, you can expect to get better gas mileage if you let the lead out of your foot.

take my dad for instance. he drives a 1995 E350 cargo van, with a 14ft long, 8.5ft wide box on the back, it weighs about 8,000lbs, has a small bloch v8, with duals. he gets 13mpg. if he drove my ranger, i bet hed top 24mpg. tho he cant get into my truck so we will never know. but the fact is, your mileage will depend VERY HEAVILY on your foot.

another case: my cousin has a 2002 E350 basically the same truck, he unloaded it to go up to his cabin cause he had alot of stuff to take from his cabin to his house. his son drove, who is my age.. so. unloaded this truck weighs about the same, give or take a couple hundred pounds,. his average mileage, for HIGHWAY driving was 7mpg. for basically the same truck differnet pedal pressure. when the truck is loaded, he gets about 4mpg.

again, its all about the pressure you put on the skinny pedal.

edit: oh ya, before i started being conservativ, i would average between 13-16mpg. 16mpg being my "high" point
