I buried my truck tonight :(
Hey everyone, i did something realy stupid tonight and i sort of regret it. I was driving threw a construction zone tonight at 10:30pm when all of a sudden a patch of hard dirt turned into 15 inches of mudd. It took about an hour for my friend to pull me out. I had the front end buried upto the foglights. It was a good thing i put my hitch on my truck monday cuz that was the only way to get me out. (thanks zach!)
I already took my truck threw the self serve carwash, but there is still a ton of mud on it. I'll get pics tomorow, i totally ruined my interior, and will get pics of that asap.
My truck is making all kinds of noises, belt squeeling bad, there are rocks stuck in the calipers, the air vent sounds like a blender etc.... It also sounds like i poped a tire but im not sure. I'll look at the damage tomorow. Also the brakes dont seem to be working too swell. Tomorow i will spend the whole day cleaning, good thing i have the day off. As of now im realy pissed off.
Anything in particular i should spend cleaning? Im probably gonna take all 4 wheels off to clean

Wheeling at night can be bad. I hope everything isn't as bad as you make it sound. Was the mud watery, or was there water sitting on it?
Clean the engine good with a pressure washer, take the air intake off and look at the maf, and the air inlet, if it's spotless you should be fine if the filter isn't wet.

My little bit of help is this- I have found rocks LOVE to get stuck in between the "rock sheild" (which could be more ironic) and the caliper. It is the thin metal on the inside of the caliper(on left side of pass. tire and viseversa) I would check that if your lookin for rocks. Other than that good luck and keep us updated.

thanks everyone for the advice so far, i feel terrible that i put my truck threw some ****. Im also thankfull that my friend went out of his way to pull me.
The type of mud was like a little puddle on top and then i sunk instantly up to the foglights.
Ever since i was a kid, i loved to play in the dirt. I guess it runs in my veins, the past 2 trucks i've owned were 4x4 dakota and i ruined them offroad, i though that buying a 2wd drive ranger that i wouldn't go wheeling but i guess not. I am addicted, i need to limit it especially at night

My friend had the EXACT same thing happen to him in his Full size dodge. We were driving (at a construction site, a night), over this field looking thing, when all of a sudden the ground sunk in, and we went to the LAND OF THE LOST!!
Seriously though, we ended up 'borrowing' a front end loader to get him out, no 4x4 that we had could touch him. Hey, we put it back (the front end loader).

Construction sites can be bad news for a lot of reasons. You also don't know what's IN the dirt. I have a dent on my front crossmember that came from doing something like that in the quarry in Centralia when I was out with Doc one time a couple of years ago.
It was a place they'd just cleared and graded and consisted of rutted dirt tracks laid on fill between large blocks of stone taken from the quarry. Well, I went bombing along hard because it was uphill and the dirt was soft. I hit one of the "rock shelves" which tilted up a bit and I went over it and when I came down -- BANG!!!
Turns out the dirt on the other side of it had just been pushed into place, but not yet "packed". When my tires landed the truck sunk in it like mud and the entire weight of the front end landed on a HUGE rock buried in the dirt, right on the crossmember.
If you've never landed on a frame piece, you have no idea of how "bone jarring" the impact is. You have no suspension or tires between you and landing. It was so hard I was absolutely SURE my truck was broken. But, when I got out of there, all there was was a very nasty dent in the skidplate, and only later did I find out the crossmember underneath was also dented in.
You can't see it with my new skidplate over it but I remember it. If I never feel such an impact again, that's okay by me!
I've also developed more of a habit of walking out new terrain where "surprises" could be damaging now. Word.

REPACK YOUR WHEEL BEARINGS. i can not stress that you do that enough. same sorta sunkenness happend to me when i was wheeling in my 97 on time. i didnt and i thought the squeeling was a stuck rock and i didnt have time to get in there and get it out for like 3 days (work/school) so i let it go and on the third day i was driving home and off poped the front tire when the one wheel bearing seized. Distroyed everythign from the axle out.

Now, they get cleaned/repacked at LEAST twice a year, and I'm putting new seals on (cheap) each time. I'm using a soap-free PAO synthetic grease that doesn't combine easily with water. TomPac TP-2557 if I remember correctly. Search for "tompac" and you'll find my post on it (and this one, lol)...

OOPS. It's Tom-Pac, lol. Here's the post I made about grease and water-solubility:
