hydrolock question

i have 2000 3.0 so my airbox is directly behind light. Does this act like a shield to keep water out of air intake, I have removed air silencer and dremeled several large holes in the air box. My ideas are either put holes in bottom of air box or...... how would i shield the airbox even more? or is it good as is, Its 2WD so i dont go crazy off road but i have had the tires completely underwater before, so its just a safety thing thanks yall

Ive been running a straight pipe intake with a cone filter for several years and havent had a single problem.
Ive removed most of the intake box along with the intake port at the bottom to allow more airflow. the headlamp does a pretty good job of keeping it clear from rainstorms, but I dont think anything will help if you submerge the truck except a snorkel.
