help needed please
ok so i just got a 2000 ford ranger XLT from my dad. it's had some problems so i took it to school and me and the teacher and my dad put it on the lift. we were just going to look at the brakes but we found more. first off my brake pads are really worn so i need new pads, we looked at the rotors and they were really scratched up. so my first question is, what is the lowest thickness the rotors can be? we have the option of using some machine to take a small layer off the rotor's. right now there both around 1 inch and 34 thousands (1.034). so what is the smallest they can go? second, we found out that the ball joints on the control arms are messed up and we need new one's. so i was told there cheap but can any one tell me how hard the install is? and third we haven't goin digging threw the ecm stuff but the check engine light, door adjar light, and sometimes the ABS light turn on. can this be fixed with new sensors or is it more complicated? thanks and any help will be greatly appreciated

IMO just go ahead and buy new rotors. If you have any mechanic skills in you you should be able to take care of the balljoints and far as i know the arms shouldnt be all that difficult either. I dunno about the other stuff but i do think its more complicated...like the abs light and what not..

Alot of times the rotor will tell you a min. thickness. If you are unsure, just replace them. They are not too expensive. That was you will have a starting point that is new to you. The Check Engine light can be a number of things, I would suggest taking it to Autozone and let them read the code. The door ajar light....lube up the door jam switch and that should take care of it. You have me on the ABS...Autozone may be able to help you there.
