Flowmaster vs. Magnaflow?

Anyone have the flowmaster 40 series american thunder muffler (not delta flow) on their truck? I have a magnaflow now, that needs to be replaced. I still want an agressive tone, and I certainly don't want it to be quieter than it is now. I don't want borla, I have already heard one with the exact same set up as mine. Any input would be great

I had them both as well as american thunders on my stang before I eventually went to bassani. I liked the loudness and tone of the american thunders much better. now the american thunder are the regular 40 series, and the super 40's and delta flows are quieter, so if you know of a recent 40 series its probably the american thunder anyway. I am going to be switching to 2.5" piping as well. My brother has the deltaflow on his ranger now, and I don't like it much.

I had the original 40 installed till about yesterday, but now I have 3 inch back with a flowmaster 10 series with 3 inch out. I grin every time I start it.

I know the flowmaster on my neighbors 2.8 chevy baretta sounds tougher than hell. It just about sounds like a stock 5.0

I've got a flow 40 on my 4 cyl. and I like the way it sounds, it reminds me of my brothers straight piped 3.0, which had a nice deep rumble.

Borla proXS sounds real nice on the 3.0L, I had one on my truck- it replaced my Flow 40 series.. and dont tell me they're overly expensive, you can get the stainless steel model for ~$80 shipped on ebay, well worth the sound IMO.

I threw on a flowmaster 40 with a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outs. While i was down there i replaced all the stock pipe and went with some 2.5 ID. I love it! It is dumped right now and other then a little interior res. There is nothing i don't like about it. Going with the bigger pipe really opened up my 4.0 and let it exhale on the Highway (passing power). Lost just a hair on the bottom end but nothing to fret over. It has a very deep aggresive tone and right off idle sounds like a beast from hell (well at least thats what i like to think). Overall i am very happy with it, and for only $56.00 on ebay it was a steal. Flow 40's got my vote!

What size are the current tips you have? If you want a deeper sound, go with large tips - I have 3.5 x 22"

Why would that be? My truck pulls my boat better now than when it was new, so i don't see how that is correct......

i had a flowmaster on my old truck, and a borla pro xs on my current truck. my buddy had a magnaflow on his 3.0. i like the borla MUCH better than the flowmaster and the magnaflow.... no question about it. magnaflow would come in a close second though :o)

if your goal is just to be loud, go with the flowmaster

The 40 series was decent in all, it still had that sweet tone flowmasters known for but not as loud. With the 10 series on the other hand with the 3 inch piping its like night and day. Going 10-15 mph and hit it and it leaves 2 killer black streaks along with a great sound.
